Well, I have been living happy with my dru-400ax burner since it was released. But, I just bought a large pack of dvd-rw disks that record at 4x. I thought since my burner supported a max of 2x, I would still be able to use them but at a slower speed. Much how I could with cd-r's.

Well, it turns out that my burned does not read any type of 4x dvd-rw media and will get an "illegal" media error whenever I try to burn.

My question is, which burners support 4x dvd-rw? I searched the net but they either don't say anything about hte dvd-rw speed, or it is "2.4" or whichever.
Pioneer if available.

Have you looked for firmware updates for your drive?

yah. I went to sony's support site. They seem to have added a new line to that reads:

Please Note: 4X DVD-RW media is not compatible for recording with your drive, please use 1X or 2X compatible DVD-RW media only.

Dang man, that sucks. Too bad Sony drives are barely being hacked or maybe there would have been a non-official firmware availiable.
