I think I am booted from LIVE

hello I tried to play madden last night like i have been for the past 3 weeks. I dont boot into evox (i just tap the power button and the x is green not orange).
I start to play live and i get an error that says you cannot connect because of a modified xbox. How could that be if i didnt bott into modchip? How can i fix this and prevent it from happening again?

truthfully i dont know what chip. I liked xbox live only for madden. Also i never heard of xbconnect what are the differences? All i no is that to turn my modchip on i hold power for 5 secondsX turns orange. To start xbox with my chip off i tap button and x is green.

Also why did this happen if i didnt have my mod chip turned on?
