View Full Version : Guncom/Lightgun Range?

How good/poor is your range with the guncon/lightgun you purchased? I recently grabbed some guns that can switch modes between guncon 1 and 2, but their range is awful (3-4 feet), and the curve of my 36 inch TV makes you need to 'reach around' for the enemies on the side. Very frustrating.
Does anyone have truly good range? It seems an accurate gun you can sit away from the TV with would be more challenge...
Errm...maybe there dodgy?
My 2 GCon2's works flawlessly from quite some distance.

Not sure what you mean by "dodgy"?

Just a thought but what is level of lighting in the room you are playing in? Is it totally dark or is it daytime and very sunny. Maybe you should try dimming the light in the room. Or maybe you have a lamp that is on and is placed too close to the tv? I hope this helps. Blast a few baddies for me. :)

Unfortunately the range did not change appreciably between daytime and a completely dark (outside of the TV) room at night. I am also using a CRT television, so that's not it.
The brand of the gun I purchased is the Osram X-Shooter. It's great gun in every aspect EXCEPT range/accuracy. It has a PS1/PS2 switch, D-Pad, auto-fire, auto-reload, recoil, etc.

Holy Long Thread Batman!
I don't know much about light guns .. cept duckhunt..
I do know all the bells and whistles though aren't going to scare the bad guys into surrendering.. So I'd take a gun that works for the main purpose before worrying about the other schtuff.
Maybe it is actually defective.. Perhaps you could get your hands on another gun and compare. Or maybe there is a thin layer of dust on the tv or gun lens that might cause some interference over a wider range.. Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about..
Anyway, good luck..

Well, the bells and whistles ARE nice...and there are very few Guncon2 games, so being able to flip to guncon 1 mode opens you up to all the PS1 shooters. Of course you never expect the gun to be faulty when you buy, and FWIW, I purchased two, both of which performed poorly.

Well that does suck bud..
I wasn't refering to the switching between modes as a bell and or whistle.. That of course is an investment. So I guess if you bought 2 and they both performed badly the gun just sucks.. this should be put on some sort of do not buy list... We should make a do not buy list on the forums.. or a review list anyhow.. maybe there is and I don't know about it.. I don't know much about a lot..
There isn't anything like that atm...
