I too have heard this. Even though you have a drive capable of doing this, it is rare that it gets to that speed.
Tyler!
its a liteon cdrw 52x36x52

In all of my experiences with all of the computer work I have done in the past, I have never seen anything like this ever happen. I have built a few with Liteon burners too! That thing had to be hummin' pretty fast to do that!
What the heck Luciel, are you tweaking things up a bit there? LOL
Sounds like you let Tim Allen work on it for ya :p Must have been a "tool time" special! :D Glad it is still working after all of that. ;)
hahahaha i remember that program :P, and no i havent touched them at all in fact my computer isnt tweaked at all lol im just glad the big boom was just a cd and not the gpu or the processor cos then i woulve been real pissed lol
On a full installation of GTA:Vice city the cd isn't even read apart from when you boot
i just watched myth busters and at 25,000 rpms the cds shattered and they said a 52x drive can get the cd spinning up to 30,000 rpms
I've had to pull the power to my computer because i could hear my (liteon) dvd-rom spinning way to fast, it wouldn't open and felt way too hot.
so its final, liteons are horny bastards! :p
Well they do keep doing it faster and faster until they blow....

Actually its the media that is inferior that breaks. If you use cheap media and burn at top speed you may get a wobbly disc and at 52x speeds that wobbly disc will break.
Tyler!
Mine wasn't being burned it was being read.

The same thing applies. If you read cheap media at top speed you run the risk of it busting up due to wobbles.

This is why we always recommend the best media even if the price varies slightly higher than the local crap of the mill k-mart/wal-mart brands.
Fugi, Memorex, Maxell, and other Generic no-names may or may not work for most backups/applications. Some users will even say these brands work well for them, but the consiquences are at your own risk. If the hardware/drive lasers gets damaged or wear out quicker, usually it is due to bad media.
If you truely want the top quality media, stick to the recommended brands like verbatim (cd-r) and Ritek (dvd-r).
This could be why I have never had any problems in regard to the "Booooooooooom!!!!!!" topic.
Check this out, play.com (only for uk) does 100 cd tower 700mb 48x (VERBATIN) for 18 quid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i bought one :)
would you say TDK's cd's and DVD's are a good brand? R's & Rw's?
