Hey guys/gals, hows it going!

Quick Q!

I just backed-up Devil May Cry (first, not second), but when I load the backup (using swap disc method and flip-top, works fine for other games, so no "FLIPTOP SUCKS!" responses please :p ) it freezes just as its loading the intro movie after it says:
"Warning: this game contains intense violence and gore"

and then the ps2 doesnt respond when I press buttons, nada.

However, if I load the backup, and press start/select just as the opening movie is loading, it works perfectly, and I can get into the main menu screen and play the game as normal (and cutscenes work too)

Any ideas why the main intro wont play?
Its got me confused...

(Btw- Burned w/ nero, verbatim data-life plus DVD-R, and at 2x speed (speed works for other games perfectly) )

Thanks!

Thats a common problem with LARGE games and poor media. Verbatim makes excellent CD-r's but there dvd-r are not of the same quality. reburn it using Ritek media and see how it goes.
BTW, Flip lids and swap magic suck :p

Hmm, really?

I didnt know that, I thought Verbatim Data-Life PLUS DVD-R's were good for anything (cause normal Data-Life DVD-R's suck totally)

I'll give it a shot, my gf's dad is a videographer and he has like 6 UNOPENED 100 DVD-R packages of RIDATA dvd's!

Is there anyway I can tell if they are G04 or not? Cause nothing is written on the DVD's OR the package? (its a red package for the DVD-R's)

Thanks again ;)

(and no, flip tops rule :P hehe (least cost wise) )

If they are 4x, they are G04, 8x could be G05/G06 :)

lol, Its not that the verbatim's are totally crap, the PS2 has problems reading most media when its burned all the way to the outer edge of the dvd-r. Same can be said for Memorex, TDK, Sony or any media that isnt G04 dye.

Lufcfan --> There's no writing anywhere on the package OR the DVD's themselves that say what speed they are... How can I check?
Just by putting one into a copying program and then seeing how high I can copy something at? (and I think I remember the bottom was purple, if that matters? :P)

Warlock --> But I remember that MK: Deadly Alliance was burned to the edge, and it plays fine? (on Datalife Plus)
(and funny how even $ony's own DVD-rs play like crap in the ps2 :P)

ADVDInfo is the best way to go. Just click 'Get Media Info' and it'll tell you the dye on the disc :)

Or just ask your gf's dad what speed they write at :)

Cool! Thanks man, I'll try it out soon as I get there ;)
(and I dont wanna ask the dad... then he'll think im gonna take his dvds or something, or he'll offer me dvds and then I'll owe him hehe)

(Id rather my gf "misplaced" them :P)

Ok well, I got my gf's DVD-r's... they ARE G04 (advdinfo didnt work, so I used DVDinfo pro).

So, I burned at 2x using nero... and STILL, it locks up at the "warning" screen... any ideas now as to why?

Also it seems that the PS2 cant read the G04 media that often... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt... (wheres as the datalife plus works perfectly)

Could it be cause this media is the type thats used for inkjet printers and has a heavier label on top? (so the disc itself IS heavier, and it doesnt spin AS properly in the PS2)

Driving me mad!

What version PS2 do you have? are you getting any read errors? It could be because the flip lid sux :D JK, i couldnt resist :) . Seriously, it could be a laser issue, media issue, alot of things. I know you dont want to hear this but fact is alot of games dont work to well with swap magic and the lid :(

V5/V6, im not too sure

And nope, no read errors, everything works fine (when it does hehe)

And if it IS the media issue, what is better than a G04 disc then?
And laser issue? not gonna buy a new laser for ONE intro to a game :P

and, lastly, what do u mean that all games dont work properly w/ flip-lid? I thought the ones that dont just need the cd-loader in between and stuff?

(but, heh, im prob gonna go get a modchip installed... but shh, no comments! :P)

It could be the laser is getting weak, its getting more common in v5,6 now as they are getting old.
