View Full Version : Question about backing up PS/2 games

My friend has now had to buy 4 replacement games because her hyperactive 9-year old tends to get a little rough with the ones he doesn't play so well but insists he enjoys. My own nephew has made coasters out of several dvds of mine so I'm familiar with how to back up DVDs using dvdshrink and nero. But I don't have a Playstation and have no idea how to backup games. She bought this program, Gamesxcopy, which is supposed to back up PS2 games. She says the back-up process seems to work on her pc (all the files on the original game disc show up on the recordable disc afterward) but when she puts the copy into her PS2 she gets a message that says something like 'Please enter a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc.' I should mention she's not too saavy at all when it comes to tech stuff although it seems as if she's got the gamescopy program to work as it should. Maybe there's something she needs to do to her PS2 to get it to read back-ups? Any help would be greatly appreciated (since she doesn't have internet right now and is asking for me for help every thirty minutes:eek:
Thanks...!

She needs a modchip - and there is no real way around it...

For everything you need to know, take a look at the Ultimate Info Sticky...

Incidentally, what is the difference between those chips? Like which one would she have to get so her PS2 will read back-ups?

Sorry for being such a noob, but where can I get a guide on how to install the chip, or does it come with instructions?

There are install diagrams at the sites where you buy the chips from but if you are new to the scene you may want to get it done by a pro.
For that, send a pm to spedmetal and he can help you with the install. He is extremely good at what he does. He chipped mine and in 2 days i had it back. I payed the extra for overnite shipping but even if you go with the slowest form of snail mail, it will be pretty quick.
As already recommended by Lufcfan, The ultimate info sticky has very good information and will help bring you up to speed here.

Edit: The duo2 chip lufcfan recommended is also a very good choice. ;)

btw, welcome to the forums! ;)
