Bought a new 50003 ps2, in june, then i drooped the damn thing!! about 3 foot onto a wooden floor......anyway it still worked fine, so then i got it chipped with a riiper2gold, all worked fine 6 or 8 weeks, the kid put a quite dirty cdr music disc in to it, and teh ps2 wasnt playing the disc , it was kinda sticking, then the next day only some games would load, then the next day the dreaded clicking noise, then ....nothing...... brought it around to my chip installer, and he informed that the laser was dead!! he took some reading from teh laser, and teh readings seemed fine, i had also taken around another ps2 (new) to be chipped, he took the laser out of this and put it into mine, and everything worked fine! All this was done while i was there..........anyway i have ordered a new 400c lens, but waht do u guys think was the CAUS OF DEATH to this laser....the drop/dirty cd/crappy v9 laser..............

Probably needs the Romeo Mod done to your board. Or else your new laser could be burnt too.

thnks for the reply Tylerdurdan and seaneyb2003, i have been reading here

http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm

about a ROMEO MOD install and probs with v9 lasers, i have already tried a new 400c laser in my PS2 and it works fine in my ps2, so i assume tha the LA CHIP is also fine...... i notice from teh above link that the author suggests that bad/dirty media can caus a v9/10 laser fail! And this is exactly what i did 2 days previous to my laser fail!

Can i just ask quick question to you busy guys about a romeo mod, is ROMEO performed because the laser/la chip uses 5v but sometimes recieves 5-12v, thus blowing laser or chip??

No, it receives 12v, but the Romeo mod takes it down to 5v...

Good choice getting a 400C, I have yet to see one go bad yet in a V7.All the V7’s I’ve had here with errors were either from dirt or the white cog. 400C’s are not listed as being compatible with V9’s, I didn’t think they would work. Good thing if they do, nice to know.

More problems, i bought my 400c laser, got it installed, and got a ROMEO MOD done, everthing was working fine for 2 games....loaded a ps2 cd game, and black screen, disc failed to eject, when i press eject i get blue light flashing and nothing happens, tried holding it pressed for a long time, all i get is a flasing blue light, logo starts up normal, disc is still in the ps2.....ahhhh,
i didnt install teh mod myself, and teh same installer done teh romeo mod, the only other info i can offer to some expert guy is that when doing the ROMEO mod on this guide,
http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm
where u connect the LA chip leg to the 5v power supply on a V9 ps2, this is where the already installed mod chip is, so he used a 5v volatage regulator somewhere to the bottom of the pic of the LA chip on the above guide....
anythopughts guys???
