I heard that when you first install/format a harddrive, it has a special code that ties it to your PS2, so you cannot install it on another PS2 without reformatting it on that PS2.
I plan to install a DMS3 modchip, which is HDD compatible...... but........ will this cause any problems on a system that already has a HDD installed?
Will I have any problems playing FFXI with a DMS3 modchip installed, on or off?
never heard of that "special code" rumor.
has anybody tested this? I don't think this is true.

the answer is false, there is no special code. i tried using my PS2 HDD with my brothers PS2 and it worked fine. It even plays back ups on a un-modded PS2 as long as you install the game to the HDD using a modded PS2 and using the HDloader disk.
Oh yea, i know it is illegal to make more than one back up of a game, but can i put time crisis 3 into the hard drive with 1 PS2 and the original disk on another PS2 to play 2 player LAN mode?

I am talking about the official harddrive BTW, not one you buy an install yourself on a PS2 for the HDD loader.
Also, will I have problems playing FFXI with a DMS3 whether its on or off?

Also, will I have problems playing FFXI with a DMS3 whether its on or off? You will have problems with FF XI because it detects the modchip when going online. Also if you use the official PS2 HDD it turns off your modchip constantly (what i've heard).
