bios ?? not where to get them ??

ok i'm gonna mod my xbox but i want it for backups and xbmc what bios is used for theses 2 needs?

or...ANY other bios. they all do what you want. but the best one out right now is, as sevi said, the x2 4981. if for some reason you cant get it to work or cant get a hold of it, though, any other bios will be fine.

also, when did you buy your xbox? do you know what version it is? cuz if its a
v 1.6 (the newest xbox version) the only bios you can use is the evox M8.

i would prefer the evox m8.
WARNING: there are two versions, one for the v1.6 box and one vor 1.0-1.5. You must know which box you have. i think you know how you can find it out or not ?

well i will be opening up my xbox this week before i order the chip but manufacturing date is 5/28/2004 my guess v1.6 any other guesses?

I think it might be but to be sure what you truely have, you need to post the info on the back of the xbox. The serial number, manufacture date( you already posted and the rest of the info. There is a site you can check it at and I will search my archieves and get the link for you. watch for my edit here...

ok i have the m8_16 bios i ordered the chip today the smartxx from extreme mods.
this bios is the v1.6 one correct?
i'm only asking now because i will get the chip by friday and want to make sure i have the proper things to get started.
also i need to rebuild the lpc is 20 gauge ok?
is the pinheader install the better way to fly?
also are the vias on bottom of xbox smaller than ps2s or larger, same size?
should the vias be scraped? i'm speaking of the lpc rebuild.

Yes the M8 1.6 BIOS is what you need. I have yet to even see a v1.6 XBox so I don't know what to expect from this BIOS but I hope every thing gos well for you.

I hope Team X comes out with a BIOS that supports the v1.6s real soon.

The points that need to be soldered on an xbox are alot easier than those on a ps2, so if you have successfully modded a ps2, your xbox should be no probs.
Either the pin header or direct solder methods are the way to go (ie lay the chip over the lpc and solder directly). Both are fairly simple. :)
