OK...last summer my friend gave me his broken ps2. It wasnt turning on, so I replaced the reset/eject cable, and it booted up fine to bios. However, the drive was broke, so I sold it off for parts. That pissed me off really bad last summer.

Now THIS summer. I ordered a premodded Messiah 2 V9 from manny down at www.socalmods.com. The ps2 came in yesterday, and I booted up most of the games I had ready fine. However, Megaman Anniversary Collection would only give me a black screen, DDRMAX2 and DDREX JP would keep saying "now loading" whenever I chose a song, and IIDX 7th Style would randomly lock up. These are all on DVD-rs BTW. Then this morning, it would only boot original ps2 games, DVD-rs would always just bring me back to the browser.

So I thought OK, the laser probably just needs re-caliberating. So I followed the guide, and turned the screw clockwise a tad. Now, the ps2 will only boot to bios when the cd tray is open, and when its pulled back in, the controller and reset/eject buttons do no respond (but the LEDS stay lit). The disc seems to start spinning for a second, but then stops.

All I wanted to do was play Bemani games on my ps2...that was really the only reason I bought it...it seems I have the worst luck with ps2s. Any help would be greatly appreciated, im about to run a car battery through the thing.

Well, the problem you have now seems to be a problem with screwing the thing back together. Take it apart and redo it. Secondly, it seems like your using crap media, what is it by the way??? Ritek is the best stuff...

You may have pinched the Reset/Eject, or it may still not be seated correctly. Also check the little PCB the white, 5 stranded cable connects to. I had a PS2 which was doing what yours is, I stripped back the wire and re-soldered and viola! A perfectly working PS2. Btw, I got my V5 going if anyone was wondering... It was a loose Reset/Eject cable, DOH! :)

What and where exactly is this PCB? On the mainboard? And which one are you talking about?

It's inside the DVD Drive itself. There is a small brown one from the worm motor, a larger one coming from the spindle motor, and then one which is soldered to five contact pins on a small PCB which controls the drive function and eject mechanisms...

That's what I was gonna Suggest..It seems like Sh** Media's you're using..
Also Why would you Tweak the laser on the V9 Machine?
I could understand it from V1-V4 maybe but V5,V7 and up it shouldn't be a problem at all long as you use Very Good to Excellent CD/DVD-R's..
BTW PS2's in general are POS..I'm not gonna lie to you..I agree..I mean they got 10 versions already..I'm sure the fact that people modding the machine has some type of factor but I gotta admit System wise for realibility, Xbox is the King..Easy Mod and easy operation(Sort of Speaking once you get hang of it).. :) :p

Most of time time, you can get a V9 and the P.o.S. will be struggling to read out of the box...
