DVD9 Burners are starting to be released, but the media is quite expensive, so you should use a ripkit to shrink the games down... What game is it by the way?

probably totally possible but whethter the ps2 would read it afterwards is another question. The lasers are pretty poor and struggle reading standard dvd-r most of the time

The two games that I am trying to back up are Xenosaga and Champions of Norrath. Both games exceed dvd disck capacity

reading forums on dual layer dvd burners......after burning a dual layer disc it is hard to get another dvd drive to read the disc, let alone knows the cheap sh1t*y laser that sony use in PS2. Iwould suspect that u could probably recal the laser to read it, but after a few weeks of reading it the laser would die a nasty death, just as if all yr backups were on Bulkpaq dvd-r(EUGH!!!).

Having said that, a lot of firmware updates r coming out for dvd drives so that they will read dual layer burnt discs but that still won't help ps2 users.

My strangly wise advice......I wouldn't do it!!!!!!!(Or not more than once just to prove that it won't read)

If its tougher to read than a single layer Ritek G4 dvd-r then it will slowly kill yr laser an that just ain't worth it!!

And i especially wouldn't do it on a version 9 or 10. Best test bench....v5 or v7.

Hopefully the next generation of dual layer dvd-r/+r will be more reliable....Besides the price they charge for blank dual layer dvd u might as well get on e-bay and buy a second copy to use.

cool, but like i say....try it once.

It gonna be difficult to try both layers without considerable gaming.....Have u got HDLoader and a harddrive? A good way might be to try and install it to yr harddrive....that way it gotta read the whole disc......although if it gonna fail i would think it would fail straight away because of the lack of reflectivity on the first layer......

Well, if i was gonna test it I would use a version 7 as well....Definitely the Rainier Wolfecastle of the ps2 world (Ice to see you!!!)

Regards :D

P.S U lucky u in da states. Prices r more like £11 a disc here!!

DVD9 games have a known compatibility issue with HDloader.... they don’t work as of yet!

So with your Liteon 832S you burned a dual layer DVD9 of a PS2 game and its working?

1) What blank DVD9 media brand did you use?
2) What Burning software did you use?
3) What PS2 DVD9 game was it?
4) What version PS2 did you play it on?
5) What mod chip do you have in it?

This is good news I hope it doesn’t put undo stress on the laser as Otto has suggested.

1) What blank DVD9 media brand did you use?
Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x

2) What Burning software did you use?
*Edit used Nero 6 to burn it used Alcohol 120% to make image file

3) What PS2 DVD9 game was it?
Meatal Gear Soild 2: Substance

4) What version PS2 did you play it on?
V7

5) What mod chip do you have in it?
I think it is a DMS2

My friend will keep the game and test it out over a few weeks/months. Im hoping it continues to work and that the second layer of the disc copied properly and that i dont fry his PS2.

I had to change the book setting to DVD-ROM as the first time i backed up MSG2:Sub it didnt work ps2 didnt recognize the disc
