ebgames web site says it has been confirmed doom3 is to be released august 3rd.

how true this is well we'll see 1 month away.
i do not know if this has been posted here but i did anyhow.

A friend in the game business has lent me a beta copy and **** me this game is awesome.

Doom was pretty kewl in its day. Hopefully this will be another big hit for them although Doom2 was more or less a run-on of the original game.

I remember when the game was first announced and shown previews for it. It took so long for the game to come out, that those graphics are nothing too special now.

The big question I've heard somewhere in the forum, should we expect Starforce 3 protection?

Activision is the publisher of the doom 3 game thingy. And what game and protection dose this company have publish earlier?

Call of Duty - SafeDisc 3
Shrek 2 - SafeDisc 3 (uk) (N/A - US)
Spiderman 2 the game - N/A
True Crime: Streets of L.A. - SafeDisc 3
Total War - SafeDisc 2 (they only license 1 so far title and that's Medival, the first shogun is license under EA Games)
Tony Hawk 4 - N/A (serial)

N/A seams to be popular and it means none protectio at all.

So what should we excepect gold sold, multi wanted titled Doom 3?
Well it have sold gold, so why should it be starforce 3 protected? They make a bunch of money without any futher ads or other things. They got plenty of fans witch will buy the game (that's why they sold gold).
I realy and I mean realy think we could expect SafeDisc 3 with CD-checks in it.
Doubt that Activision have buy other protection license, becuase most of the titles have sold very good. And I doubt that they would'nt risk to not protect the game, becuase then a flow of pirated copies will flowing around.

SecuROM seams not to be there thingy, becuase I could'n find one single game that have been SecuROM protected by Activion.

Serial protection? Yeah, like hell, think doom 3 also have a multiplayer part, so multiplayer = own serial.

So those who want to backup there untouched doom 3 disc, EXPECT SafeDisc 3 with CD-Checks and Serial (with's is not a thing to backup on a cd). If it is, Starforce 3, then GOD luck, but the odds are 1:700000 bilion.

How to back SafeDisc 3 protection, CD-Checks and other type of knowing and backup protection can be found in my backup guide. Use the search button and you find it!

safedisc + CD checks and a serial like krondike says.

They can protect it with the latest starforce crap and it still will be cracked anyway, crackers won't mind putting some time in cracking this amazing game. :D

Amazon Germany doesnīt even show the german version of d3 in
their database. Does anybody know why?

Half-Life 2 is in the list - but i guess it will not be released before 2005.

you would think it wound be like all of the other Dooms in regard to cheat codes. Have you tried pausing the game and typing in "iddqd" for god mode or "idbeholdl" to light up a dark corridor/tomb? Try some of the old codes from older Doom releases and see if any of them work? Personally I havent bought it yet. Just wondering if you tried the old codes yet.

As all of you who allready have this game recognized the game is very slow even on new Computers.

I found out the reason for this and the solution to fix this problem.

As you already know after installation the game consits only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) in high compressed form.

Normally those files were decompresse during the game.

But this exactly is the problem. Even new CPUs are not able to decompress those files while running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runs very **** also on new computers. I don't know if the develpers of ID-Soft was just too stupid to think about this or if they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms.

How to get around this problem:

It is very simple. Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files you have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract their entire contents to the Base dir in you Doom 3 installation folder (replace all files if they are any duplicates). Now you have to delete all .PK4 files in the Base folder to prevent the game to use those compressed files agian.

Now the game starts and runs mutch faster!!!

Anyways, when I typed it, it gave some message like "nice to see you still remember". Then stated the commands were invalid. Anyway, they just used the commands from the old q3 engine, like god, give all, etc..

sry to double post, but karlmueller. There is an alternative. I had very, VERY crappy framerates at first on my ati 9700 aiw (high@1024x768). But now, it runs very, VERY nicely. Hopefully you have alot of ram. I only have 512, and the game runs good. Higher would only mean better.

Anyways, just go into the base folder, and open the file "doomconfig.cfg" Find this line here:
seta image_cacheMegs "##" (mine was 20, some others were 32)
then set it to something that you can spare in memory, mine is now:
seta image_cacheMegs "128"
That should give dramatic speedups. Someone with a gig of ram could probably set it to 512. Anyways, people have reported as much as a 35f increase (one had 25, edited and got nearly 60).

im saving this 2 tweaks in my notepad lol

When i get the game ill try:

Putting it at 1280x1024x32
with everything on high
then ill uncompress the pk4 things and then edit that file the other guy said, if it works...
Ill get a smooth HELL GOOD looking Doom 3 :D

btw, i have 1gig of ram (dual channel so even better), what if i put 768 to spare? would that be pushing it?

Well, I like to map for games, so the first tweak kind of bugged me. the pk4 is just an imported zip file. Extracting all those files gives me a headache.

oh yah, after I edited the line to seta image_cacheMegs "128", the frames went strait up to 60fps (the game is capped at this, so it won't go higher) with no demon entites on screen, down to 20-30 with enemy demons.

In my opinion, this game is a cross between resident evil, and halo. Movement, speed, and rate of fire is the same as halo (along with spaceship surrounds), but there are demons, zombies, and other baddies that move and fire like that of RE. And the atmosphere is just as creapy (a zombie might just pop out and scare the loafs outta ya). One of my 2 favorite games at that lol.

768, hmm, not sure. 512 would be great already, i mean, the default is probably 32 lol. 768 with nothing running in the background should be ok. Just uh, don't do the ultra settings. It needs like 500mb video ram, and they don't make any past 256 (yours) lol.

The rest were in my notepad archieves. Atleast we now know the old commands dont work anymore. :p :cool:

Just a warning to those with an 9700/9800pro ati vid card, tehe game will probably crash after 15-20 minutes of play. You have to find the beta 4.8 catalyst drivers to fix that problem.

I'm pretty sure that my specs are good enough to play the game....but....when I get into the menu screen and try and play say the Recruit game.....It starts to load it and then kicks me back to the main menu screen....And this is from a Legit copy of Doom 3..... :confused:

pak004.pk4 is corrupt on like 80% of the Doom 3 "archives". I had the same exact problem, pak004.pk4 is all the textures for Doom3. Try another site, torrents are usually best, avoid IRC.

Anyways, I like the game. It is like no fps that I have played. It actually makes me jump continuously throughout the game, and the levels are as beautiful as said. I play about a level a day, and am on lvl 12 now. Multiplayer is alot funner than I expected too. I was used to a 4 player limit (well, ther eis that patch) from halo, but it actually makes it funner than 8. The weapons are never there with 8 people, it actually sucks alot when you try and play with a pistal in a room lagged out by too many players.

So, my answer is that it it not as good as it was hyped, but it is on my top list of favorite fps's.

Whenever I start up Doom3 the loading screen pops up and then it closes and this blue window pops up and says

ERROR: LoadLibrary 'D:\Program Files\Doom 3\base\gamex86.dll' wants to load 'D:\PROGRA~1\DOOM3~1\base\gamex86.dll'

see if "gamex86.dll" is in the base folder. Even if it is, extract it from the pk4 file it is in and over write. This seems to be a more common problem.....

although...

doom3~1 doesn't have a space, i don't know if windows removed it when they shortened path, but...

If all fails, you can go to d3files.com. I made a launcher for the game under utilities. Just click the profiles button and load one. It will create a new save directory and make a new "gamex86.dll" file as well.

When ever i start doom 3, lets say in recruit mode, it exits the entire game to the desktop. i have a brand new ATI All-in-Wonder retail right out of the box. do i still need the Catalyst drivers? Thanx

All right so the game installed fine, and i was starting to play but sometimes when it loads stuff during gameplay and when the screen just temp. freezes (but for a long time), all the lighting goes away. It's Pitch black. Anyone else have any problems like this? Thanks

As all of you who allready have this game recognized the game is very slow even on new Computers.

I found out the reason for this and the solution to fix this problem.

As you already know after installation the game consits only of the doom3.exe and some .PK4 files. Those PK4 files includes the entire game (sounds, videos, textures etc.) in high compressed form.

Normally those files were decompresse during the game.

But this exactly is the problem. Even new CPUs are not able to decompress those files while running the game with good peformance and therfore the game runs very **** also on new computers. I don't know if the develpers of ID-Soft was just too stupid to think about this or if they have an agreement with some hardware manufacturing firms.

How to get around this problem:

It is very simple. Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy and get inside the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files you have to open each of them with WinRAR 3.3 and extract their entire contents to the Base dir in you Doom 3 installation folder (replace all files if they are any duplicates). Now you have to delete all .PK4 files in the Base folder to prevent the game to use those compressed files agian.

Now the game starts and runs mutch faster!!!

ati released a 4.8 drive a day before yuo posted it. Although it doesn't state that it fixes probs along with the other games, it does fix problems with doom.

i blew a fair amount getting me pc to run doom at near full blast.imagine my joy when the game after ten minutes playing kicked me out of the game and returned me to xp deskytop with washed out colours to boot.bugger i thought must have pressed the wrong button so went back in.guess what it did it again and again.this is a legit copy so wot the flip is going on.i have a radeon9500 pro clocked as a 9800 pro and its stable.athalon 2800 xp with a gig of ram at 333hz.i can run far cry at full res so it must be summet else.does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi,
I am trying to play Doom 3 on my laptop.
E machine 2400 athlon xp 512 pc2100
64 mb shared for memory Ati Radeon.
They have said on this forum that if you use winrar to decompress the files that the game can run smoother.
Is this possible??
At this point the mouse is really slow and the game is really framey.
any help would be appreciated.
Plus how do I convert the cd's to one DVD and where do I get a cracked .MSI file.

Yes, but don't expect and super performaces. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it wouldn't run faster, just less studdering when you open doors and other random pauses during gameplay.

You don't need a patch or anything. I put mine onto a dvd. It was stated in a thread. ALl you have to do is open the msi file, look for "DOOM3_2" and "DOOM3_3", then change them to say "DOOM3_1". Then just name your volume label DOOM3_1 when you burn.
