Just picked up a ps2 50001(EB games) not sure if v9 or 10 ( not modded) hear two clicks at start of ps2 dvd game. I'm thinking back to the store it goes -laser problem.
am i right or wrong on this???
thanks

If it's loading everything up ok then why are you taking it back to the store?
Mine makes two small clicks initially and then boots everything fine. The two clicks are made by the lens focusing on the disc.
Simple way to tell how good yr laser is in an unmodded ps2. Back up a dvd movie and see if that plays in there. If it does then no laser problems.

well what i was thinking was 2 clicks it's the begining of the end.
Maybe loads everything today but tommorrow or a month from now who knows.
but i have also heard from others that say it is normal.

yea i just modded a v9 and the drive was a clicking mess unknown why i just returned the ps2 to store, and remodded and 0 issues.
i think the v9s are getting really cheap parts even cheaper than before:(
Shame that's all you can get a hold of nowadays
Bring back the V7's :)

Could be a wise decision. Sony need to be careful, because anyone thinking of getting a new PS2 is gonna be thinking twice after this...
The version 9's are really cheap an nasty. My laser needed calibrating after 9 months of a lot less than average use (less than 1 hour a day) and only thing that went in were originals, ritek g4 or verbatim datalife+ cdr, i wouldn't mind but its meant to support rw, something that would probably have fried the laser and LBA chip. Sony r a bunch of cheap tight $%^&*!!!!! :D
When the first v9 consoles appeared I purchased 2 or 3 consoles from the local best buy that had crap lasers right out of the box. Most of the consoles i do are pre-mods so the first thing i do before i do a install is make sure it loads everything. I refuse to tweak the laser on a brand new console, If it wont load PSX, PS2 and a ritek dvd backup flawless i take it back.

I think this is going to be my 5th Ps2.
1st- laser problem and tray problem
2nd -laser problem
3rd-v9 syndrome
4th -which is this one maybe laser problem
After the 3rd one i said no more ps2's with chips for me.
I now only buy my ps2's from EB games- they have the best extended warranty.
I would never buy a ps2 without a hassle free return policy.

Just romeo mod your new console and then fit the chip - it won't die from the V9 Syndrome again... :)

i have to agree even the v10s are crap no load anything out of the box this is the 2nd ps2 in 1 week outta the box that have laser issues!
i mod locally no inet and been thinking for now on i''l be buying preowned ps2s from EB and cut the price on the premods. because the new ones are so Sh@ty that the chances of a refurb being good is better than getting a new one.
