View Full Version : ps2 troubleshoot....
Hi all, long time,,, nice to see most r still here,,
My ps2 v7 (i think) with messiah 2 (i believe) is playing whenever it feels like it... it boots ps2 dvd backups seldom now, most of the time wont boot them. still boots playstation backups most times but with problems, even original. Is there a thread or a how to troubleshoot my system, including the messiah 2 that is supposed to be intalled in it. this time i didnt install it, so i will have to open the ps2 and verify it...tnx in advance...
Your best bet is to try cleaning your laser first.
well, i found the troubleshooter guide.. after making some tests with booting procedures i found out that all my ps1 originals/backups play fine and also my ps2 cd base originals/backups... So my problem is dvd only related, which means that i will have to open it and clean lazer (since i cant find my cd cleaner) and if that fails verify for W and R wires to see if they came up loose, then recalibrate.. But i read that re-calibrate is a complex process, but i know i can do it... i dont think that is a bad laser since this particular unit doesnt have that much use.... can u direct me to a how to calibrate the ps2 laser?? tnx in advance...
Do a search for Shadowknyght, the guide is located in his signature.
k here is my progress,,,
My ps2 does play dvd ps2 games originals and cd originas and back up,,, will only play some dvd-r backups after first booting with a regular ps2 orinal (dvd format),
so i went on and openned it anyways and cleaned the lasers, and disassembled it, had my doubts about the chip. it is a real ms2 chip, took a picture of it but i think i cant post it here, anyways is an "actel a54sx32a -f TQ100 0302 ms2" printed on it, what ver is that??
I verified W and R wire for continuity and they fine. everything else looks fine i guess. All solder points have continuity and nothing seems loose.. what other tests should i conduct?? any ideas?? should i do the laser azymuth adjustment?? or should i just close it and see what it does now/? tnx a lot..
Sounds Original - it's an Actel chip, although some clones (as with the Matrix MXL2) have fake chips with Actel printed on, so it's kind of hard to tell...
Man am i out of luck...
After the cleaning of the laser and also placing the ntsc color fix the system played 1 Mortal combat backup game.. seem to be working fine but after a little while the reset stopped working when i went to exchange it for another game to test.
Now the ps2 reset button stays red no matter what, the eject botton does noy work either and the fan is not even coming on... whats wrong here??
Check the reset/eject cable. It may have come loose or pinched.
    Man am i out of luck...

I had almost the same problem after installing a lisa-xp chip. The problem was caused by a the eject cable, one of the thin contack tracks come lose and pushed back, when i pressed the cable back in.Peet  Sry for my english,i'm afrikaans.
yeap thats what it was, the silver eject cable got pinched and broke one the thin contacts, tried to fixed it but no luck, guess ill have to see where to get a new one around here...
