crap... now there is something wrong... i turned off the ps2 when it was formatting.. but it took like 40 min. +... so i turned it off since it should only take 5 min. so when i turn it on it just freezes on the Hdloader first screen.

If it freezes then your hdd isnt compatible with HDLoader. What brand and model of hdd do you have?

i just bought a Seagate 120GB Barracuda, i have a Matrix Infinity mod-chip. PS2 version 9. i get to the point where it's formatting my hard drive. is there supposed to be a percentage bar when it formats. all i see is "formatting drive... please wait..." i waited for 4 hours!... thanks for all the help.
It should do it in about 5-10 minutes. Try formating using the DMS HDD Formatter. You don't need the chip to use this software, btw...

Hmmm this sounds strange. I think I remember something about the Ethernet only network adapter having some problems. Which one do you have?
Also is the barracuda (Seagate barracuda 120GB RIGHT?!) the one that you turned off in the middle of formatting the first time, or is this a new one. If you can’t get HDloader to format the drive, I would take lufc's advice and try DMS3's format tool. You can find it here http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms3/dlcontainer.pl?dir=../../dms3/files/chips/DMS3_Tools
Good luck

Well Seagates have been working. I just think either this guy had a problem with his or just isnt doing something right.
I personally have a Seagate and it only took me like 30 seconds to format.
