I would like to add a modchip to my PS2 but I have no previous experience with soldering. I am currently practicing with a board and some resistors from Radio Shack and im doing pretty well. I also downloaded some guides to soldering to help me out but I have some questions. I am intrested in a Matrix Infinity. I have a version 3 ps2 but i've seen some diagrams which mention gaped bios or no gaped bios. How do I identify what I have? Second I would like to know once it is installed how do I keep the chip from moving arround? I heard that I can use a hot glue gun for this. I will also like to know where I can get a diagram for the matrix infinity. I've seen the chip arround but not the installation diagrams. (I already been to the Ultimate Sticky) Finally what wires do I use for the installation? If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

You can get a list of supplies for everything your going to need for your install in the ultimate info sticky everything from what wire your going to need to bananas.
Yes you can use hot glue to hold the chip down.
You can get install diagrams directly from the manufactures web site at http://www.infinitymod.com/matrix/
Once you have the diagrams you will understand what a gap and non-gap bios is.
This is just my note but unless your laser in that V3 is in top shape I would be getting a brand new console. The v3 is one of the hardest versions to mod and it came from Sony with a crappy laser. Go to my site and read the "Test your laser" link. If it doesn’t pass the test you might want to think twice.

My version 3 ps2 can read dvd+r and dvd-r movies without a problem. I haven't tested it yet with your test but I will. Which version do you recommend for mod chipping? I bought this ps2 used just in case if I burned it out with a bad solder I would not lose that much money. I paid $120 for it. I could probably still change it for another. Thanks for the help.

Just because it will read DVD movie back-up means nothing when it comes to DVD PS2 back-ups. DVD movie back-up have no copy protection that the chip must negotiate unlike PS2 DVD game back-ups. Do the test, if you get the browser screen you more then likely will have problems.

I did the test. First i inserted the original game and hit reset. The ps2 went directly to the game and not to the browser, so I guess its ok. Im thinking of trading it for a new system version 10 but isn't it harder to chip?

I actually think the V3 is harder to mod then the V10, but thats just me.
