Well, I had planned upon modding my ps2 this weekend, but due to Console-Corners incompetant system, they refused my credit card twice and never notified me, so I never got the chip ordered. I came across Premods.com and am curious if they are any good. Their Magic V chip is cheaper, but I'm weary of clones and copies on the net.

You can check out Installers Sticky for the best rated installers from members of this site. Im sure some of them do premods as well.

Try this suggestion first before you make any hasty decisions. Its very informative and reliable. You will not be misdirected nor will any of us give you bad advice, however its up to you. We are all friends in gaming here.
We are only here to help. ;)
BTW where are you located?

Sorry if i sounded angry earlier. I had taken time off and made plans to complete this project over the weekend, but those went awry. I have checked the sticky, but the only site that has an incredible record is Norcalmods, and they don't sell just chips.
And I'm located in Nebraska

Modchip.ca is rediculously expensive.
Divineo has a 5k6, and i'm not sure if itll work in my ps2. does it work on ALL version 9 ps2s?

DownwardSpyral
19-06-2004, 21:11
Well, I guess i'll go with Premods.com since Divineo no longer carries the 50k... or am i missing something?

I appreciate the help so far. divineo doesnt have a 50k any more. so my only real option since Console Corner stinks (and for some reason doesnt have modchips in the store anymore) is Premods.com.

just get a dms3 then or a matrix infinity if u seriously want a mod that badly.

why not try a seach on the web for "PS2 modchip" and see what you find that way?
There is a great deal of results you can explore. ;)
ebay has some but not sure how reliable they would be though.

try www.foundmy.com
Modchip.ca is rediculously expensive.
Did you consider that it may be canadian currency?
seaneyb2003
22-06-2004, 04:29
lmao yea .ca is a cannadian site hehe :) yea foundmy.coms good they are an official reseller of the duo mod chip. Go take a look at that.

Is the Duo 2 just as good as the Magic V?
I don't want to buy a DMS3 because I've heard they are a royal pain to install, and for the price, i'll pay for so much more functionality than i need. In the end, if i really need it, ill just buy it later to replace what I have at the time.
Foundmy.com is also located in Canada, and shipping isn't pleasant. 10 bux for 6 day shipping? 25 for next day? cmon. This weekend man!

holy cow. giant! excellent!
Whats this strange thing I hear about V9 and v10 LA chip syndrome?
Is it something I should worry about?
puppeteer666
23-06-2004, 07:29
i've heard about that also and i have had a v9 (ntsc) for awhile with 0 issues.
and the chip i have in mine is a clone i'm pretty sure.
I'll say. I think Mr.Puppeteer has had the Romeo mod done or is just very, very lucky :)
Basically, if you install the chip, you need to lift a few legs on the LA chip and solder them to a point via a link wire to the mobo. Search around the board there's a fair bit on it, or look on google to find some more detailed instructions. It needs to be done because the V9's (and I think V10's) receive too much current through the supply and blow. This mod reroutes the supply to a safer voltage and your console will live.
puppeteer666
23-06-2004, 08:03
romeo what is that? luck quite possible.i'm going to mod another v9 with a duo2 without any leg and wire and run the hell out of it!
then again the main reason i modded my ps2 was not for backup play mostly divx.i do play my backups once in awhile but it's hours in gaming vs playing divx can not compare.
I don't think it matters how much its on for, if it gets too much current for any length of time, it's gonna blow... ;)

maybe im just blind, but I'm having a hell of a time trying to see which one is Pin17 on the LA chip.. according to the pic spedmetal provided in a previous post, its the 3rd from the bottom? http://www.norcalmods.com/graphix/romeo-mod-v10.jpg
granted, that pic is from a v10. my v9 will probably look like this: http://www.duomodchip.com/english/install/laserrepair/V9_LA_protect_large.jpg
