INtense PS2 idea

I have a question based on the subject of diskless playing. IS it possible to connect a HD and simple use hardrive space to run games indepently

from having to purchase a mod chip ,just to play my own personal backups

or is this a project I smell well any comments answers or direction to the truth would be excellent but if nothing else please atleast post so that I can know?!!!! :confused:
