hi there!
anyone tested backups with dual layer writers (for instance LG GSA-4120B) yet?
Especially considering DVD9 Games like Metal Gear Solid Substance and others?
Couldnt find any information using the search function, just suppositions that it won't work.
Thanks and bye!

I saw a pack of Verbatim that included one DVD+R DL at Best Buy. It was thirty dollars, but included 8 redular DVD+Rs and 1 DVD+RW along with the dual layer disk.

Has anyone figured out if any of the current single layer writers, like the NEC ND-2500A or the Pioneer A07/107 will be able to be flashed to dual layer capacity? Or if the PS2 will be able to even read burned DVD+R DLs, given how poorly some PS2s do with DL games?

Maybe if a hacked firmware is released, they could do it, but the vendors sure as hell won't release an upgrade to allow dual-layer disc burning - remember, they want to sell you a new unit. IMHO, I don't think it will happen... :(

biggy said its possiable 2 hack it.

I'm not saying the hacking is impossible, but I do think it is VERY unlikely that Pioneer/NEC etc... will release updates. Personally, I hope it happens - that'll shoot 'em up the arse :D

hehe yea they be screwed really huh all that money they can make dong dual layer when all it takes is a firmware update. :)

hehe were getting a good post rating doing these multi topic convos hehe :) personaly i dont mind going out and getting a new dvd wirter specially when they only cost 79 quid :)

Very true. But having said that, when you can have something for nothing, it's worth having. Just think though - you can then take that £79 and get a nice 120GB 7200RPM drive from eBuyer and pre-order HDLoader from Divineo... :)

yea ok..... but how about those dvds u have???? there on dvd-9 and the newer games there on dvd-9 so... might as well keep up with technology.:D

I don't have any DVD-9 games @ the mo, but I guess i'll have some before I've done, so I suppose you're right. Oh well, you could always do a few installs and get the two of them! :D

xbox isnt hard at all. Ps2 looks a bit tricky but im up for a challenge.

I've heard the d0 point is a bitch. PS2's can be tricky, but just take ur time and watch those vias... They're not hard after a few practice attempts though. I managed to get an old PC mobo with Perfect vias - exactly like the PS2's. Had a practice on that - it's covered in wire, rather like that controller I had now, lol! :D

seaneyb2003
31-05-2004, 15:04
yea vias are gits if u have a doubt use the one on the back of the mobo the alt do thats fine.

lufcfan
31-05-2004, 15:06
Don't you have to take the mobo out for that though? I thought I read that somewhere...

seaneyb2003
31-05-2004, 15:08
yea i prefer 2 take it out. when u do xbox mods u tend to use the pin header so u got to take it out the mobo :)

Good question, Liteon, Toshiba and a few others are soon to release dual layer DVD+R writers but i have seen nothing about - format. This could be bad news for people with older PS2's.
