Error on avi file?

I have an avi file, and every time i mark it, or trys to open it, i get and erro, can any body tell me why?

You may not have the correct codec in order to play it.
First download a program called GSpot (Google) to identify the codec required, then use google to find the needed the codec

i was askin cuz if it had the kinda file it is
its most probably a xvid or divx
u can get the divx at divx.com.. xvid.. yea google it up
whats the error say by the way?
