Today I broke my 30003 Playstation chipping it with a Apple 3 chip (I pulled off a contact on the underside of the board). So basically I am starting from scratch again with no PS2 but more games & accessories than you can shake a tree at!

Q: Which machine would be best for me as I've heard talk of the older v1 to v4 models and v9 & v10 all having problems of some kind or other. Some models I've heard can use DVD RW's or even CD RW's which models are these?

Q: Is there anywhere in the UK I can buy a second hand PS2 pre-chipped or will it be a new one in Satin from playstationservices for £215 with a Messiah 2 all in ?

Q: Is my 30003 salvagable as it seemed quite ill before I put in the back of a cupboard and then the back of my mind! - with no chip and all wires removed it just stayed on a black screen and then a testcard 15 seconds later with the cd tray out and refusing to go back in!

Please help me chaps - I'm desperate

Sounds like it’s too messed up to try and repair. If you really wanted to save that old version of yours then send it to a pro to look at. But in the end you would be better off just getting a new PS2 and sending it along with your Apple 3 to a pro for installation. Sony just had a price drop on the PS2 and you not only get the PS2 and controller for $149 but you also get the network adapter and ATV off-road furry. You can’t go wrong with that. The new V9's and V10's where having some problems with the LA chips and/or lasers burning out, but this problem seems to be dieing out. There is also a preventive mod that any good installer can do to the v9's and v10's to help with that problem, it’s called the Romeo mod.

But want ever you do, I would highly recommend having a pro do it, just look what happened to your old version :( not good.

Depending on which contact you pulled off you could probably reconnect it... if the station was in good nick (i.e. laser) then it may be worth saving.

Nah...Just get ride of it. He already messed it up and even if the laser was good it’s in a V4 or earlier console so it’s a peace of crap KHS-400B most likely. He already damaged it and doesn’t know how to reconnect what ever damage he did. Send it to a pro (if you really care about saving the unit) and save your self the headache. Or better yet just get a new one with a pro to install it….you don’t want the new one to go down the road of this one as well.
