View Full Version : Majic 3.2 install problems, Blackscreen
Hi,
I just installed a majic 3.2 on my version 4 PS2. On start up all I get is a flicker and then a black screen. Disc door will open and close and power/ reset switch lights work. Disc does not spin or laser light up.
I have checked my connnections. I used the AWG 30 you supplied. Should I use bigger wire for the ground and power?
Are the fuses the solid black bigger cubes on the board (with numbers like 50) or are they the flatter and smaller squares with silver ends like resistors?
Thanks Dan::(
ok sounds like you have a solder bridge some were try the back of the board also make sure that you have not burned though a track on the board if the install looks ok then and it is still not working take the chip out and clean all the solder off that you used in the install and see if that works with out the chip if your lucky and the ps2 works get yourself a duo chip as they are a lot easer to install and a better chip with less problems with booting new games also go over the board with a set of clocks to see have you blown a fuse the large black things with something like 50 on the top of them

This also applies to the clone that has been dubbed the magic 3.2
Thanks for the help - I did have a bridge - found it after taking it apart several times and almost going blind. Up and running now but having disc reading errors? Maybe I have to clean the lense?;)

if you are getting a disc read error then you quite likely still have a short, or a damage part due to the short. Test an original game that worked before the mod - if that also fails then it is not your laser.
Also make sure you use the correct boot method.

He said nothing about having the mod installed back in it. I'm assuming he went with my first suggestion to remove the install completely and get the unit back to normal, so he is most likely using an original. Or I hope this is what he did or he may be chasing this problem for a long time. Get the unit to work with out a mod first, and with out disc read errors. Then if you want try to install your magic clone.
Cleaned my laser, now everything is working with the magic installed. Thanks

and now for some childish... ner nerny ner ner!! :D
I interpreted right! :rolleyes:
That done... - Personally I back out of a mod as a last resort - first I attempt all possible corrections then I would back out...
As yet - never needed to - thank god - takes to long to do, undo and then redo... :(

DANO ... congratulations on successfully fixing your PS2. My suggestions were only an attempt to help you out of your situation, as whenever you get a black screen after an install this is not good. So to address this in a adult tone (not childish or one upping) I suggested what I did only because for a first time installer it may have been best to eliminate any installation problems before addressing a laser issue that didn’t need to be done. I also don’t back out installs until I have to. But any way congratulations on your success.
And with that done...to shadow...blah blah blah :p <---childish
