how do u extract only audio from avi files?

I just want the audio, specifically a musical performance, but it's from an avi file. Is it possible to extract only the audio? If so, how?

Get VirtualDub from here (http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/) and open the avi file with it, then go to file->Save WAV..
it'll extract the audio in wave format.
