help with cd-rom

can somebody please tell me how to get my xbox to play cd-r's. sometimes it lets me play them, but most of the time it doesn't. any help would be appriciated. i have an XECUTER chip in it and the manufacture date on my box is:

2002-10-11

Unless the music is on a cd-rw disk, or you have a samsung dvd-rom in your xbox, your xbox will not read burned disks.
