I found this about the v9/v10 - is there some sort of failure with thesr baords, as I do not want to buy one and it goes bang.
LA6508 R Driver Chip - We now have the latest version of the LA6508 chip that is the cause of many v9 and v10 PS2 console failures.
The LA6508 replacement chips have been available for some weeks now but the problem with these chip is that they will blow again soon after being replaced. Some clone chips were also available but these relied on some functionality of the original chip. If the original chip was completely damaged then the clone chip would not work.
The LA6508 R chip has extra circuitry to prevent this from happening. So if you have a damaged PS2 then all you need to do is replace the LA6508 chip and your console will be up and running again in no time.
