I have this version 4 ps2 with a magic 3.1 installed...the unit can read backup cdr real games and movies flawlessly but when it comes to backing up a game on a dvd-r or dvd+r it doesnt wanna read it. i tried adjusting the laser with no succesfull result. is it possible that some of the ver4 ps2 just cant read dvd+ or - r. or could it be a back modchip installation. if so what points should i be looking at.

Thanks for any info

The V4 is notorious for having laser issues, and yes it being able to read CD-R and not DVD-R is no surprise. Are the CD-R back-ups you speak of PS2 games? If so it not being able to boot back-up DVD-R PS2 games wouldn’t have a thing to do with the install as it has the same operations for CD-R as it does DVD-R.

If you got to my web site and click the laser test link, this will give you a good way to see if you laser is in OK shape to read DVD-R back-ups.

Some times the lasers can be adjusted, some times not. If the laser is so shot that you can’t get it to read after adjusting the only option is to get a new laser.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Alright thanks for the info...so the fact that i have a LG dvd burner is not an issue...i see alot of ppl recommending pioneer drives. And for the laser i have tried adjusting and still no result. How much and where could i find a new laser?

thanks

if it can read cds and real dvd game/movies you dont need a new lazer
its most likley ether your not makin them right or still need some calibration or something else I dont know about

Not to be rude, but you speak of what you don’t know. Just because it can read CD-R's doesn’t guaranty that it can read DVD-R's. Same goes for DVD movies. And just because you adjust it doesn’t mean that your adjustments are guarantied to work, I have seen many V4 lasers that where so bad that they wouldn’t read DVD-R no matter how much I adjusted it.

If it’s booting CD-R PS2 Back-ups the install is correct! Doest it read CD-R PS2 games? Or were the CD-R’s you said it booted PSX games.

*EDIT*

In addition gamesmell could be right about you not making good quality back-ups though. Can you test them on a friends modded PS2 that is known to boot DVD-R PS2 back-ups?

*EDIT 2*

What brand of DVD-R media are you useing? Try Record Now Max instead of DVD Decrypter.

OK thats why I added the or something else I dont know about
that being sead have you tryed the program hes useing to make um its just my opinion but I think that might be it I sugjest he trys something like nero or stomp before he gets a new lazer

Edit: you might also want to record at the lowest possible speed that seems to give me better quaity
