Problems With DVD Backup: CloneDVD and AnyDVD

Hi... I'm somewhat of a newbie to DVD Back-ups.

I have both Clonedvd and anydvd. My system copies and burns the movies, but they always either stick in defferent scenes or get something almost like static on the screen.

I have even removed everything but the main menu to overcome this, but it is without fail.

One of these movies is Anger Management.

Please help.

what version of cloneDVD are you using? If you have version one, then, up date it to CloneDVD 2 (http://files.elby.ch/download/SetupCloneDVD2.exe) . Or, you can use DVD Shrink (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm) noobies should read stickys. (Its helps even if you have burned a DVD before)

P.S. What are your PC's specs?

I have clonedvd version 2 or the newest.
My computer specs are as follows:

VPR Matrix
P4 2.27 GHz
512 MB of RAM
80 GB HD
64 MB Nvidia GeForce Video Card
Liteon DVD+R/-R/+-RW 4/8/8

Your specs look good. You should not have ANY problems backing up DVDs. Use Shrink (even thought CloneDVD 2 is probably not your problem) and try doing one backup (use the "Deep Analysis" option) and see what the results are. If you getting the same result, try different media (i.e. Ritek) and update the Firmware on your DVD Writer

Should I use automatic or custom ratio to have the better percentage, using shrink?

Use Automatic, go here (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm) to see how to do it. I personally get rid of everything except 5.1-dolby surround english. Then, you can use the Re-author function to just put the main movie (no menu or anything else) on the DVD and, if you are using Automatic, Shrink compresses it to the minimum needed to fit it to a +/- R disk. If you have Nero 6 (http://www.nero.com/us/neroue-prog.php) then you don't need to do anything special. After Shrink has re-encoded the video then, it will burn it automaticly. All you need to do is keep a Blank DVD R in the burner.

At what speed should I burn the back uo once I'm done?
Should it matter? My burner has not given any problems in those regards.

It should not really matter, if you are burning "on the fly" (The DVD your backing up is in a seperate dvd-rom) then, do a 1x. But, if you copy the DVD Files from the DVD to your hdd then it should not really matter. just the slower you burn the less likely that an error will occur.

When I backup w. Shrink, I always stick the files on my HDD then, I let Shrink burn them cuz, I have Nero.

I would never recommend burning DVD's on the fly, ever. The risk is just too high that a small glitch will ruin your dvd.


Also, if your movie is skipping thats more than likely a sign that your dvdr brand is low quality or heck maybe even you had a bad burn.
