ver 1-3 has 10 screws on the bottom....im using sony dvd-l discs.....i dont see how anything can get much better...but i may be wrong..im just afraid that if i go buy real expensive discs then they dont work then i just pissed alot of $$$$ away.....i know its testing but there has to be good research to prevent from alot of wasted time and $$$...

If you read around here youll find that Ritek GO3 or GO4 media is the best for your ps2. Although a v1-3 ps2 is highly unlikely to play dvdr anyways. The laser is very old and probably wont read it like a newer version would.

so it would be better to purchas a newer one?...........

I would recommend a newer ps2. Especially since your old ps2 still works. I would sell the old one on ebay, omitting the age and version of it. You can get pretty much all your money back for it and put it towards a new ps2.

is it possible to upgrade the lens in the ps2?...to a newer one..but i dont understand how a new game can be played in it flawlessly and it be a new game and yet a backup will load and play but has glitches...jus seems a bit odd how the lens can "kinda" read....thats like staying you are kinda deaf in a sence

Yes, Im pretty sure you can buy a new laser for it fro around the price range of about $40-$70. But if you sell your ps2 on ebay youll have a totally new system for about the same price as that new laser.

DVDR is not as reflective as genuine stamped DVD's like what Sony uses. Thats the problem. If your ps2 is already having problems reading DVDR then not too long from now itll have problems reading Originals too.

hey TD I have learned from you...I have a friend with a brand new version 8 ps2 not even 1 month old and he dont have access to a computer and isnt interested in buying one either said he would trade me for mine and reinburse me for my money that i used to pay for the flip top...so i need to know how hard or simple it is for me to install a mod chip?.......which is best and wat to look out for..and can i still access the online gaming aspect if it is installed...

If you are positive it is a v8 then I suggest getting a Duo modchip. Only 17 wires and quite stable. Youll have no problems booting up just about any game you put in there with that chip.

Glad to have helped you on your way.
