i have a ver 4 ps2 and can't get this the HDD to work. i've read briefly that you have to disable the chip. if that's so, then how can i play my backups? any solutions?

Your right the HDD will not work with a mod chip, so its one or the other. Have the chip on and play back-ups but no HDD or chip off and use HDD but no back-ups. Until something changes in the mod scene this is just how it’s going to be.
