Okay, I dug out my old ASS PS2 (disc read error) and did some adjusting, it now reads all discs and loads on the first try EXCEPT Original PS2 silver discs.

It used to only play silver discs and not read blue or backups or DVD's.

Anyone have a clue what I should adjust next? Or should I just stick to playing the backups? (which I don't like doing cause I don't want them scratched)

Well, I'd rather scratch a backup than an original...

see my sig - you might also try the white cog adjustment as I have heard that this fixes the blue DVD thing so maybe you could adjust the pots back to where the laser works with the silvers and then adjust the cog for the blues...

but then if your laser is that selective it may not survive that much longer...

You should see the white Cog on my V4, I’ve marked off about 8 spots with different colored markers where DVD Movies would play best, different brand DVD-R’s would work at different spots, CDR’s…
And where, say an original DVD movie plays best, DVD-R backups would not boot at all. Some cheap media might only work in a range of about 1/8th turn of the cog while a brand like Verbatim worked on 5/8th of the cog!

sounds like one seriously stuffed or unbalanced drive - have you tried the black screw?

Never messed with this myself (mainly as I don't have a bit small enough to fit it...)

Have you also adjusted the white cog to middle ground i.e. where it works for most and then upped the power to the laser a little by adjusting the pots?
