I've been trying to make a backup copy of my Need For Speed Underground but after making a copy it doesn't seem to work on my PS2.

It is a PAL version of the original disc and my PS2 has a Messiah modchip.

The backup was made using an MSI DR-4A DVD/CD re-writer on a '-' disc using Nero 5. I've done other backups which have worked just fine using the same brand of discs and setup?

Try using Nero 6 - or if you can, RecordNow MAX/DX

I'll give that a go, a mate of mine reckons that it will work with Xcopy Platinum, but you have to drop the burn speed right down.

I backed up Need For Speed Underground using DVD decrypter and Nero 6. Worked fine.

Did you realize you can make an ISO and burn in ISO, in DVD decrypter ...

Someone is going to have to explain things to me a bit here. I have only just starting making backups for PS2, as I waited until the warranty ran out on the machine before it was modded.

Clearly Nero doesn't work, because that's what I used

I will download DVD Encypter and see if that helps. I have found a few cracks for NFS Underground, so does this mean it won't copy DVD-DVD or is that only required to rip it down to a CD?

yes this game works dvd to dvd i used RNM first try have a 100% working copy :)

u may have a burner doing kinda like my lite-on did it burned just fine at 4x they one day would no longer burn any game working @4x so i finaly upagrde firmware and it works again dvd burners r relly picky about burning games and when u got a off brand that makes it even more.

Try RNM. Also try burning at various speeds...Some of my full games (4 gigs and bigger) wouldn't boot unless I burned them at 1X. But that was with my old burner....my new external has no problem with anything (Record now max and ritek combo :D )

Maybe try Nero 6. Don't know if it will make much difference compared to Nero 5? I've used it for a few. But i think i did my backup of NFS in decrypter.

How come nobody ever mentions Alcohol 120%? Are the other programs that much better?

Well I use Alcohol 120% for backing up my PC games because of the copy protection. PS2 Games really don't have copy protection so I see no need in using alcohol. I'm sure it would work fine but I'll stick to Record now max. If it works, don't fix it.

Two things I've been told but yet to try, as I can't get the disc back off the mate I lent it to (hence the need for a backup, I don't like lending out valuable discs!).

Burning at 1x may help, as a friend says he can't burn any PS2 games at 4x on his Pioneer writer, they just don't work.

A program called DVD Xcopy Express Platinum, which can apparently copy DVD discs as mirror images, will burn most 'tricky' PS2 backups.

I'll feed back when I've tried both these methods ;)

Finally cracked it!!!

Nero 6 Ultra Edition copied the disc perfectly. Apparently the latest version copies better and it did it just fine, no glitches in play or operation.

Oh and disregard the comment about DVD XCopy. It is an application for copying and compressing DVDs. My friend recommended it because he thought it would do PS2, but it only does Movie DVDs (very well I might add to!)
