Ok, I have 3 questions

1. Does DNAS ban your system if you attempt to play online with a modchip on? Or does it just block it until you turn the modchip off?

2. I coudlent find info on the stickies, is there a webpage anywhere that tells me what mod options I have for my ps2? most of the newer modchips dont work with my version, I have a 30001-R with a serial of U0763989. I think its a V4, not sure.

3. I am worried about my DVD drive, it has never given me a dre but sometimes games take up to 10-20 seconds on the browser screen to boot. Would I be able to buy a replacement DVD drive for it should it go out? Since if I mod if and then it goes out I doubt sony will repair it. And how much would these drives cost?

Right..

1) Dnas will only stop you booting your games until you modchip is off or in sleep mode.

2)Version 4 ps2's are quite old and may not even boot backed up games.

3)Sounds like your system is already on the way out and you should sell it on ebay and get a new machine :D

Try and get v7+
Although v9/10 machines tend to explode due to sonys cheap parts. :p

Ok dude i sort ya out:)

Q1. Dnas is protection, to stop you playing your ps2 backups online. It will not ban your console it will just not let you connect.

2. The best mod for a v4 is the duo chip. Usa : www.norcalmods.com UK www.ukmodchips.biz

3. i sugest cleaning the laser with a dvd lense cleaner. This is probably your problem. If not i would invest in a new laser.

Regarding question #3

It sounds like at most you would need to replace the laser. Or better yet, turn your current laser's juice up.

Thanks for all the recommendations so far

What do you mean that my V4 PS2 cant even play backups correctly? I cant really afford another PS2.

Also, what can and cant the duo chp do? Can it boot everything the Messia chips can? Can it be turned off? I like that norcalmods site but the prices seem WAY too good to be true. And is the duo chip hard to find now? Its listed as out of stock with the same page as the messiah2 chip, which I know is near imposible to find nowadays. Ive never heard of the duo chip before, why is it the best bet for my ver ps2?

Thanks

www.norcalmods is dependable. Spedmetal has installed mods for many forum members and i am sure all would recommend him again. The Duo chip will boot everything that the messiah does and it has less wires to install. Messiah2 used to be the best but now it has many equals that are priced less.

Very nice

And I see they are located in the USA as well, that means that I dont have to worry about my package being seized like it was last time when my modchip was shipped overseas, stupid government customs.

Well, the only thing stopping me ATM from going through with it is waiting for the HDD to come out to see if there are modchip compability issues.

Whoever said that the version 4 is old.... that was pretty dumb. I use a ver. 4 and I happen to think it is one of the best if not THE best PS2 version. The motherboard and inner workings are so simple to understand. I had the no solder mod and it worked great. I got the Flip Top Cover now (I wanted to have the rarest PS2 on my block). I suggest to get the Flip Top Cover... sure you have to Swap with a Boot Disc but who cares?! it is about $30 for the cover & disc and it works for all versions. How simple. And as for online play... no back-up will work online. I think Sony encrypted something on their discs but cannot be copied by dvd burners... yet, anyway. Well, there are my 2 cents on this topic.

Its not dumb Nizzle, The lasers in most v4's have considerable wear by now and no way compare to the lasers in the v5 and up, not to mention they were weak to start with

How could you have gotten it fixed for free if its a V4, ... I haven't seen v4s in stores in ages, so I doubt it still had the warranty.

No not on v4 call and see i am 100% that thay will fix it if it is not open. If the lazer is bad and not reading cds or dvds thay will fix it. I had my v4 ps2 for about 2 1/2 years and sony said send it and i got it back in 2 weeks and ps2 works ok.

Thats the thing

Its not broken, and so far its never given me a DRE error, so I cant really give it to sony to fix it. But I am worried that it might someday since it takes 10-20 seconds for most games to boot. And if it happens AFTER the ps2 has been modded then I cant send it back to sony for repairs.

Either wait im waiting until the HDD is out to make sure there wont be incompabilities.

i bought a broken v1 off ebay back when v5-6 was in stores it was 1/2 borken so i got it cheap it played awhile but got worse and worse about reading so i called sony told them i bought it off ebay as working and it was doing rsod on ever thing they told me to send it back and they fix it for free :) they said usely would cost $90 but they waved that fee so i sent it and they put a new laser and clean it up and sent it back and it worked like new but it took like a month for me to get it back cause they had my address screwed up so it came to my town and went back to MI then back to me again and in the mean time i bought another v6 so i sold the v1 on ebay for $170 and bought me my first no solder R mod which worked great with my gs2 till i got the money to get a apple solder in and the funney thing is i opened that v1 trashed that warrenty sticker and they still fixed it i had taken that ps2 all apart lol i guess cause i told them it came from ebay the sticker was alrdy like that but yeah they fix them for free $ony was good about doing that.

LeonC
22-03-2004, 06:20
Well its cause yours was "1/2 borken" as you say.

Cyber Akuma

You mean you guys dont know?

Becuase of the INSANELY large amount of PS2s that eventually keep giving the dreaded Disk Read Error message, any PS2 that gives a DRE or has problems reading disks, sony will fix for free.

What if I ran mine over with a pickup, but still have the sticker attached, ... I'm getting reading problems with it now.

Cyber Akuma
23-03-2004, 13:36
I think they would tell if you ran it over then if it just stopped working on it's own

You know what I mean
