View Full Version : Help with anti-mod code...

Hi, I've been trying to play this "Tennis no Ouji-sama" (Prince of Tennis) game for Playstation but it turns out that it has the anti-mod thing in it, so it comes up with that red cirlce with the "x" through it screen.

I bought a PSX change 2 disk...but it still doesn't seem to work. I looked at the site that it directed me to, searched for a code and found none.

Does this mean that I'm out of luck and can't play my game unless I get my hands on a Japanese Playstation? Does anyone know of a place where I can find a code that will let me play it? Or perhaps...is there a way for me to find out what it is myself? (such as look at the files on the disk on my computer and try to decode stuff?)

Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
I'll check back on this thread, but my email address is: Kamikaze_Kaitou_Jeanne(nospamm)**********com (remove "nospam" )

Thank you again,

~ Kaoru

Just get a PSX steath mod. You must have an older mod chip that doesnt have the new code. The stealth mods defeat the anti-mod games.

Thanks,

Though, is there anyway for me to do this without getting a mod-chip that requires me to open up my Playstation and install it that way? I'm not very good with those sorts of things and I'd like to make sure I won't screw up my playstation by messing with it by opening it up.

Well if you know how to figure out what the anti mod sequences are. You could hex edit your iso and fix it before you burn. But as I was looking through some of my old ps1 patches none are the same.

So since not many people are making anti mod patches due to lack of interest, your best bet is to just get a better chip.

Hmm... how about these though?

http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_utils_bootcd.shtml

It says that they bypass the mod-chip detector thing--or is it no different than the PSchange2 disk I bought.

Also, if they do work, is there some special thing I have to do in order to burn them onto a disk to be able to be read by my PS?

^^; thanks for putting up with all my questions. I really don't know much about altering games/Playstations and such.

I figure if all else fails, I'll just have to save up and get myself a Japanese PS2.

Thanks again,

There are different kinds of protection.

First there is the protection that doesnt allow you to make an exacto copy and play without a modchip.

Second there is Region protection that wont let you play a playstation game from another country.

Thirdly there is antimodchip protection which is a code that just looks for a constant signal being sent by the modchip. Newer stealth modchips go into sleep mode right after they boot a game thus the code doesnt sense the chip and allows you to continue playing.

The link you posted is for Region protection. Not Antimod protection. Getting a japanese ps1 wont get you past antimod protection any better than your current ps1.

Getting a Stealth Modchip for your ps1 is the best thing you can do for it. It will fix basically every problem you have. There is a Sticky for plenty of Modchip installers in the PS2 section, Im sure one of them can install a stealth chip in your ps1.

Thanks TylerDurden!

Though, what I believe I am looking for is to be able to play a game from another Region (country)

All I want to do is play a Japanese game on my U.S. Playstation. I don't need any cheats or anything else, just to be able to play it is what I want ^^

that's why if all else fails I'm just gonna try to get my hands on a Japanese PS2 -___-; as expensive as they are, at least I'll be able to play my import games.

So, if all I want to do is play the import games, the link that I put up from before should do the trick right? (if this is correct, then how do I burn those onto a CD to make it able for me to play Japanese game?)

The downloads there say that they're for playing imports, but they also says: "It includes an Anti-Mod & Anti-AR killer which attempts to disable CD Protections"

Or, again are those files the same as the PSx change 2 disk I bought that doesn't work anyway becuase it wants some code for the game that doesn't seem to exist >__<

Again, thanks for putting up with my questions and thanks to any help that I can get with this. I was just so looking forward to playing this game...and then to find out that it doesnt' work >_<

Thanks,

DUDE this means that the game is MOD PROTECTED. So this has nothing to do with region, get it! You could patch this game all you want with the other protection patches...you aint going to be able to play this game on your console or a JAP console for that matter, unless you have the original in an unmodded console. By the way why would you want to buy an old JAP PSX console just to play this one game? To do the patches is not hard by the way, just read the tutorials and stickys. There are also guides on mega-games that hold your hand the whole way through. This should be cake for some one that thinks they can edit the hex to get around the anti-mod protection

Spedmetal, There is no need to be so critical/harsh. Honestly, I came here asking for help on a subject I dont' know too much about and I find your bold font and cap letters to imply yelling--and I don't appreciate it. I dont' mean to fight with you, I see no point in it as it won't help me accomplish what I came here for, but I feel that I have the right to defend myself at least.

I know the game is mod chip protected, that's the whole thing I've been talking about here. I stated so in my first post. (please read what I said carefully) I'm not trying to bypass a mod protect function just by changing to a different region console, it's an import game, so, playing an import game on a console from the game's country of course would work.

"unless you have the original in an unmodded console"

My game is original (as I've never said it was copied or a back up )and my console can be unmodded since all I do is unplug the external plug in I have (as I stated before that I do no internal modding of the console)

As for getting a old Japanese playstation? I said Japanese Playstation 2. With a Japanese Playstation 2 I would be able to play the region 2 dvds, and Japanese Playstation 2 games along with the PS ones and not care about any mod-protect functions. I never said that I would get it to play just one game--of course I wouldn't do that--just because I didn't mention any other games that I have or plan to buy, it doesnt' mean that I dont' own any others or plan to buy any others. But as PS2s are expensive and I am but a college student, I thought that it would be wise of me to search out other means of trying to play my game besides having to track one down, order it and pay the high shipping charges.

All I'm asking is that if the files up for download from the link I had before work because it claims this: "It includes an Anti-Mod & Anti-AR killer which attempts to disable CD Protections" along with playing imports. Which sounded to me that it was exactly what I was looking for. I don't know what they are, I was just able to read the descriptions and asked if this was something that might help me/this is what I needed to be able to play my import mod chip protected game.

As for tutorials and such, I can't start on them unless I know what it is I'm supposed to use. This is all very new to me, I'm just trying to play I game I bought and I find your tone to be off-putting.

This should be cake for some one that thinks they can edit the hex to get around the anti-mod protection

I don't know what you mean by that, but I'm taking it to mean that you think that I somehow think I can do something that I can't. Well, I don't. I have no idea what you're talking about. I have no idea what a "hex" is, I'm not quite sure what a patch is or if that's what I need to use and I don't believe I ever claimed to know any of this. I came here for HELP on those precise subjects, not to be insulted by someone who admittedly has more knowlege on the subject matter than me. I'm just asking for information--as I've already stated, I dont' know what I can do about this sort of thing.

Maybe you're impatient with me for not knowing what I'm doing, and for that, I apologize. BUT, I believe this forum is here to help people who need it, correct? I don't believe that you should take on that sort of tone of voice or manner with someone who honestly was just looking for help. If you were asking for my help on a subject that you didn't know too much about, I'd have been more patient with you.
=============

I'm apologize to everyone else, I'm just trying to figure out how to play a game, and TylerDurden, thank you for helping me so far with all the info you gave me.

I was under the impression that this board was a friendly and welcoming place to help those that needed information, especially those that dont' know where to start and just needed to be pointed in the right direction. I very much hope that I was not wrong.

Again, just to be clear:

I have a Japanese game, a PSXchange 2 boot disc, plug in modifier which can be removed, and a regular non-internally modded Playstation. All I want is to be able to bypass the mod detection and play my Japanese game (without getting a chip that needs to be internally installed)

OK now we are getting some place. You don’t have to cry either. I'm very helpful on this forum. The info has been stated once over already, you just haven’t been very clear. Sorry if I offended you.

Now on to your problem. The PSXchanger is a crappy mod (don’t take this personal Kaoru) I know because I had one back in the day. The import boot CD's you are referring to also don’t work very good, and I once tried one with spyro3 which is a mod protected game and it didn’t do jack. Believe me I know a little of what I speak, you need a good stealth mod. They aren’t hard to install. I even have a few left. PSX's are very easy to install, if you don’t want to do it yourself contact me, I'll make you a good deal as no one wants PSX chips any more.

In addition, just to make this even clearer, like I already stated once, you won’t be able to play that game on your US console with out a mod, and since that game is mod protected and you have a mod that isn’t stealth you can’t play it on your US console unless you get a stealth mod. Now if you could find a patch that would defeat the protection you would be in great shape, you could just make a back-up and patch it, but I did a little looking on some of my favorite places and not only could I not find a patch for that game but not much on that game period. So you have 2 options.

1) Buy a JAP console

Or

2) Get a stealth mod

The stealth mod would probably be your best bet as it might cost a lot just to impost a JAP PSX into the states let alone what ever you had to pay for it. Also with the stealth mod you would have one console for all your PSX titles. Another thing, you would no longer have to swap discs as you do with your PSXchanger. The stealth mod would direct boot everything for you with a lot let hassle.

Now this is all just my 2 cents worth so don’t be offended. Good luck. IM NOT YELLING YET!!! :p
