Well I figured it's time to upgrade my console. With the pc game market being as slim as it is today, I am forced to look elsewhere for my gaming needs. I've been looking intono solder mod chips but the thing is the require a certain kind of ps2. How do i identify the diffrent ps2s. and what would be the best no solder mod chip to get.

You really dont want a no solder chip. They can be real crap. I highly suggest you consider just getting a solder modchip and have one of the people in the "Modchip Installers" Sticky install it for you.

none unless u dont look after it. Just clean it 1nce a week and it will be ok. just hover the grills to stop the dust build up and use tp quality media such as riteks.

Well I contact the guy at norcalmods and his priceing seemed resonable but I'm not exactly sure what's the best one to get. I would really like to beable to turn it off in case future problems with antimod softwae occur in the future. Also what is dvd-9?
If it were my money i would get a Magic V installed in probably a v9 or 10. The Magic V is one of the best chips on the market right now and very affordable at $19.99. The Messiah2 and Dms3 are good modchips but IMO the PS2 should be used for gameplay, not DVD movie's so you dont need all of those extra features or high prices.
BTW DVD 9 is basically a dual layered PS2 game.
DVD-9 are dual layered dvds, ... that are larger then the standard 4.7gb discs.
If I was you, I'd ever get a magic or duo and install it myself.
Duos seem to be really cheap and easy to install.
From what I hear.

K I'll go with the magic v. Also is there anyway to backup a dvd-9. like splitting it into two dvds.

Yes, its possible to split DVD9s into two 4.7gb dvds.
Its a bit tricky to do, ... but worth it in the long run.
