Hi all,
having a few problems backing up my copy of Socom II.
I have used Alcohol 120, Gamecopy & Recordnow Max to create images, burnt it to DVD & it always fails at about 90%
I have used Nero on-the fly & the same thing happens. It always seems to get near the end then failure result.
I have even tried PrimoDVD but it doesnt even recognise the DVD in my drive..!!
I have a Sony DVD +- drive.
Has anyone successfully done it & if they did, could you tell me the programme you used & the best one for PS 2 backups.

Thanks

DannyK

Thanks for the the replies so far - i'll try the decryptor.
Another question while i'm here - do you have to patch PS2 games..?? I see game patches on some sites & have always wondered what they do. Could this be the case for SOCOM II..???

Thanks

Its not the case for Socom 2 but if you read the Ulitimate Info Sticky youll find out what patches can do.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction re: patching of games.

Just ruined another DVD trying decripter . The same thing happens - all the programs will copy & produce an ISO on my HDD but when i come to burn it, at about 80-90 % completes then the error shows up again. I have to finally admit defeat....

Thanks anyway

I have now a the same problem with a few of my games - they seem to get to sbout 80 % then fail. No matter what program i use. Are there games that can't be backed up..?? I couldn't do Socom, Socom II, SSX 3. I really would like to get to the bottom of this as i've went through a helluva lot of disks..!!!

Your burner could possibly be getting old. Have you updated your firmware on your burner lately? Maybe your just having media problems.

could be your disks if your not using ritek brand G04

nah, my burners only a month old.

As for the disks, could that be the issue..??
Is it possible that some games backup OK on my disks but others don't..??
To be honest , the trend i notice that the games that fail are all over 4 gigs & i use a local companys unbranded disks.

I'll try another make & see if ir makes a difference..

Thanks

i have just updated the firmware to dru-a510

Should this make a difference. Just tried Socom after the update with the same results. I'll wait for the new media & try again:(

maybe your hard drive is faulty.

mine was.

what happened was i burnt a few dvds fine and all when i first got my dvd writer.

then one day when i was burning it stopped about half way through. then i tried a different disk. failed. tried a differetn game, failed. i started to use RW dvds. :D

but it kept failing. so then i did a hard drive error check. came up with errors and fixed em. then it worked. but later down the road my hardrive was doing crazy stuff constantly. so i took it ack to the guys who built it. they did a diagnostic and found that it was faulty and replaced it with a new one under warranty.

so it could be that. im not sure if thats ur problem, just a suggestion. ;)

What are the software's Error recovery options set to? Make sure ignore read errors isnt checked when reading to HD.

:D :D :D
i seemed to have sorted it

I changed the media to Ritek G04 & Bingo - they all worked first time...!!!
Lesson learnt i think...don't go for unbranded...go for what other people recommend...

Thanks to all who posted.

I use princos also. for movies that is. they never skip either. but they r only good at 2x.

plus my dvd player is twice as strong as my PS2 and it doesnt constantly load stuff and move the laser up and down etc etc like the ps2 has to.

I use Taiyo Yuden DVD-R. They are the best media money can buy. even better than ritek, believe me.
