View Full Version : V7 Strange Fault Any Ideas?
I fitted a ripper chip to a V7 all worked fine for a few days then
it stopped playing DVD-r and just gave the red screen of death
Checked all the wiring could not find any problem fitted a new laser still wont read DVD-r
so removed the ripper and fitted DUO again all fine for a few days then exactly the same wont red DVD-r
removed chip again plays original fine
i then fitted the ripper to a V5 3 weeks on all working fine
i then fitted the Duo to a different V7 all working fine
has anyone had this before it would seem to be a rogue V7 that just wont stay modded for more than a few days
any ideas??

hmm never seen this happen before. You sure the connections are ok on mod try resoldering it all.
went over all connection 3/4 times
iv'e had a similar fault once before a wire had come off the bios so take extra care and double check every time
i stuck a Messiah 2 into it last night all works at present
but only time will tell

check all point with a multimeter.
ive checked them all with a multi meter no shorts
iv'e been all round the board with a high power magnifying glass looking for solder splashes and bridges can't find a thing
its odd all the chips have worked fine for a week or so then
just seem to stop reading dvd-r games ,original ps2 and backup ps1 and dvd movies are fine .the same chips in another ps2 fine

wtf man! i dont get that it should be ok. Try looking at the cd dvd controller. Did you use correct wire? Also the laser might be something to do with it.
im using the same kaynar wire ive used on every other ps2
i tried a complete laser unit out of another ps2 didn't make any difference still working with the M2 fitted 2 days now ill wait an see its got me pullin my hair out

ok seems a bit odd to tell u the truth
Thats why i can't get my head round what its doing
i thought ok 1st chip worked fine for week then stopped playing dvd-r maybe a loose wire couldn't find a wireing fault so change the chip for a duo again about a week later wont read dvd-r
tried new laser didn't fix it so fitted both chips to different ps2 both work fine
it realy does seem to be this V7 doesn't like chips
