View Full Version : Mod Chip Question
I'm about to mod my ps2 V4-gap, and a V7. Wondering if i should go with a Magic 3.1 for the V4, and V7. Or go woth Magic 5 for the V7. But now i'm thinking i'll just put an Apple Duo in both.
What do you guys think?

Take the magic 3.1 outside gently place it on the sidewalk. Then stomp on it repeatedly.
Never use a Magic 3.1 youll only have problems.
Get the Duo, they are cheap enough and with less wires for anyone to be happy with.
Tyler!
i was on www.the-console-corner.com
they call it an apple duo for $16.99
it looks the same as the pictures for a duo on any other sites.
i'll check out that other site now.
i was beginning to think the 3.1 was garbage from what i've been hearing. thanks for the assurance.

no get it from www.modchips.cc there real good. duo chip is made by team omega and beware of the fake duos. wwwduomodchip.com
okay thanks
i was beginning to wonder if that was a fake or not.
hey seaney i see you have a v7 modded with a duo, does this affect dvd playback? i don't use my ps2 for dvd playback but the guy with the V7 uses it for a dvd player and he doesn't want to buy a dvd player.

No it doesnt affect dvd playback. But I would recommend to your friend that he just buy a standalone dvd player. Because using the ps2 to play your dvd movies just more quickly wears down your laser.
Tyler!
yeah i've seen the norcalmods site. But i'm in canada. and i think it said people out side of the US can't get their shipping. not sure if that meant i cound't get their stuff or if i have to pay the actual shipping. i'll drop him an e-mail to see what he says.
thanks
*edit*
Yeah their site says shipping in the USA only. And i'm not too sure on how to get 2 of the 3 ribbon cables that are connectiong the mainboard to the laser/disc tray. Might be easier for me to stick with the Duo where all the soldering is on the top?

As Tyler said, I recommend a standalone dvd player.
Not only that the laser wears down more quickly, the dvd playback isn't good at all on a PS2.
you will find out that some moviebackups will work and some wont. Even some original movies can't be played in a PS2.
Don't know exactly why but I think it is the lack of dvd functions that does it.
