Hi there, hoping that some ps2 gurus may have seen this problem before.

I have a ps2 and magic3.1 installed, works fine. I recently got a receiver with digital optical in so I was playing around with some DVD movies in the ps2 and fiddled with the 16:9 screen sizes.

Long story short, when I boot up the ps2 now on the BIOS screen there's a black border all the way around the screen. When I play games the black border is still all the way around, kinda like the picture is too small for the TV. But when I play a movie there's no border all the way around.

Anyone ever see this before?? It's really aggrivating ... is there a way to reset the BIOS to factory defaults? I've tried going into the BIOS setup and selecting 4:3, FULL and 16:9 with the same problem.

Did you change any settings on your tv?

Unfortunately it's never something easy like that. I have one of those Pelican video game switcher boxes so I have an Xbox connected to the same inputs on the TV via that switchbox. The xbox displays perfect to all the corners of the screen. Only the PS2 doesn't "expand" to fit the screen completely. I use Svideo ... I should check if that's the same with the regular RCAs as well.

Try using your old setup or even try deleting the saved ps2 settings file off your memory card.

hey bighap,

Does the PS2 have some kinda setting saved on the memory card or on some onboard ROM? Cuz you know when you boot up the PS2 for the first time ever it asks you for your timezone and the date ... is there anyway to reset it to that state?

Delete the saved settings file on your memory card.

Ok I can try that ... is the file named something intuitive for those settings? Anything special I need to do to delete them?

It is called Your System Configuration. The icon is a PS2. Highlight that file and hit X. Then you will come to a new screen and pressing O will delete it.

bighap, thanks for the quick replies. I'll be sure to delete the config and see if that fixes it. I'll report back just in case anyone else has the same problem.

Dang it, I deleted the config file on the memory card and it's still got the same small screen issues when playing games. It's crazy!

Try a different connector or tv.

On the main menu after power up, go into System Coniguration and cycle through the menu. In there is a screen size option. Change it so the border dissapears. When I had my Messiah installed, the clock and stuff reset themselves. Just try changing it back to 4:3 and see if that helps...
