I have a little utility which identifies the true manufacturer of a DVD regardless of the brand name. I have found that both Sony and Memorex DVD+R and DVD+RW are actually manufactured by RICOH.

When I check prices on "unmarked" RICOH DVD media I find that they are considerably more expensive than other brands, a fact that is probably reflected in the prices for Memorex and Sony blank DVDs.

Is there any significant quality difference in the RICOH media to justify such a higher price?

Thanks for your comments.

UPDATE ON MEMOREX:

Just bought 25 Memorex DVD+RW disks from CompUSA at a good price.

Upon testing, my utility, "DVD Info," shows that these are manufactured by "INFODISK" . . . . not RICOH. Now I am wondering if they are of the same quality as the earlier Memorex I had bought.

I sure wish we could get a good string on DVD quality going on this forum.

_NEVER_ rely on the printed brand name on the discs, package etc. like you noticed, the real manufacterer can only be read from the disc itself.

memorex is just a re-seller, not a producer. they just buy the blanks from different manufacterers e.g. Ricoh (btw. Ricoh = Ritek), Moser Baer and 3rd class, not well known factories like Infodisc.

Eagle -

I was unaware that Ritek = RICOH. Thank you.
Do you know if the Ritek unlabeled disks are the same quality as those sold to Sony and Memorex?

Is this "INFODISC" an inferior product? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Thanks,
