Hi guys. As you can see from the signature I have a v7 pal ps2 with a dms3. I plan on buying a gameshark v2 for my ps2. I wouldn't say I'm a cheater but I want to get an object which is really frustrating to get it. For those of you who know, I mean the sun sigil from Final Fantasy X in the Chocobo trainer mini-game, I must have raced the trainer like 100 times and I just want to smash the monitor due to the !@#$%^birds!

So anyway I'd like you to tell me if there are any problems working such software(eg. gameshark) when your ps2 is chipped. I wouldn't want to find out that it's useless cause I've chipped my console!!!

thanks in advance

I'd also like to ask, is gameshark suitable only for american users and ntsc version games? or does it work for all version ps2s? Eg. for mine which is pal and I use pal games(i'm in Greece)

I would get an Action Replay Max instead.

Thanks for your replay. Well it seems from a check I made in amazon.com and from the comments there that there are a lot of people unhappy with gameshark. Plus Action Replay Max really seems nice and it's cheaper too(with the gift of the remote!!!). As a matter of fact it has the same price with Xploder v4 DVD pro as I checked it on www.xploder.com . It is supposed to be the pal version of gameshark or so I was told by gameshark tech support. So how about this one? Any preference between them?

Ps. I just saw a user review of a guy in the link you provided for me and it says the xploder is c*** compared to AR max......Hmmmm. This is a tough decision, almost as a modchip decision....

Well I just saw something I didn't like. In a greek forum I saw someone asking help saying that he had chipped his ps2 and that he regreted doing so because he cannot use his action replay max with his backups!!!!!! The admin answered to him that he will not help him......I was thinking of emailing support and asking them directly but I have a feeling that they will tell me what I just want to hear so I want you guys to be truthful. Hey BigHap, when you recommended AR Max you did know that I will be using it with backups as well as originals right? To your knowledge, do xploder and AR Max wotk with backups and chipped ps2s?????

Well I'm certainly happy to hear that since the fact that you have an ntsc console and me with a pal, doesn't make a difference. I visited the link above, provided by bighap. Why did I have the feeling that AR Max was meant for Europe only? I was wrong? Is it for all regions? Jap, Ntsc, pal???????

Action Replay was originally PAL based, then I guess they went NTSC as well.

Could you please post the booting sequence using AR Max and a back-up. I lost my original Mortal Kombat due to my nephew. I tried to boot with the AR disk in and the machine didnt see it. So I put the chip to sleep and it worked fine. BUT, then when i put the back-up in it couldnt read it.

Any suggestions?

i read you post for the 3rd time!! You need to boot your ps2 with the chip ENABLED.. then when you boot the AR Max +codes it will load. Make sure you boot with chip ENABLED.
Sorry for so many posts!

eak's, I know, I know, you are just trying to boost your reply #'s. Kidding, kidding, man rough crowd.

Anyway,
to be sure I am doing this correct, AR first and then the back up, right?

OK, with the Magic ENABLED when I insert the AR Max disk, my system boots to the following screen "Please insert a Playation or Playstion 2 disk"

Does anyone know what I am doing because I surly don't. Thanks.

are you booting with the correct boot instructions? i dont know them as i have a dms3... are you saying u cannot boot ar max with your chip enabled?

trackml2

yes, disabled it boots fine but then, of course the back-up dont

eakinsme

BOOT WITH CHIP "ENABLED"

trackml2
19-02-2004, 12:44
OK, here's the deal;

With the chip ENABLED:
I cannot get the AR Max to boot at all, it says to insert a PS1 or PS2 disk, but back-ups will work.

With the chip DISABLED:
The AR Max boots as intended but when it comes the time to swap to the back-up, no luck, it reads that it cannot read the disk.

Sorry for the confusion.

well then u mite be screwed. you need to be able to boot ar max with chip enabled to play backups!

Heres a thought, maybe try backing up the AR2 disc and using that when the modchip is on.

I know this thread is getting old, but another question. With the Magic V 50K there is a different boot sequence for PS1 games.

Is this because they are CD rather than DVD?

The reason I ask, the AR Max is a CD. So when I try Tylers Recommendation, I will be trying to boot a backed up CD (AR Max) then a backed up DVD.

TylerDurden

PS1 games use a different code thats the reason behind the different boot for ps1 games.

Ps2 games should boot the same with your chip no matter if they are cd or dvd based. Just burn on a cd and load like you would any other ps2 game.

No luck backing up the AR Max cd. I tried cdrwin, clonecd and recordnow max. I tried "on the fly" as well as image. I keep getting errors. Oh well, the AR Max thing aint a big deal anyway. But thanks. If anybody ever does figure this out by experience, please post it. Thanks for the help.

Gamesharks and probably Action Replays have always been a bit hard to back up. They give lots of errors and take a long time to read. But Ive done a gameshark before, myself. I know Blindwrite Suite will do it.

trackml2, I did test your unit (like I do with all my installs) with my back-up of Gameshark V3 and it booted just fine. I dont have AR so I cant say anything about that.

All rite guys,

Magic V (clone Version) on version 9 ps2 does have some problems loading up AR MAX (Both PAL & NTSC). Booting it up is a hit a miss thing. I've got the highest success rate by doing this:
1)Turn on your ps2 from standby mode by pressing Reset.
2)Wait till it loads up to the browser Menu
3)Press Eject and put in your AR Max
4)Press Eject to close the tray and wait for about 5 to 10 secs
5)Select Disc Icon and press X

It will usually works for me, but hey ARMax is a piece of CRAP to me. I bought both the NTSC and PAL version and they are just sitting in the "TRASH BOX".

I've decided to use my old Version 2.03 Action replay(Mine is a PAL Machine). Which you can enter codes for both NTSC & PAL games, and it boots 100%. As for time consuming code entries, I'm using the keyboard so it's not as bad as using the controller and YES it saves the code in the Dongle instead of the Memory card which in my opinion rather small.

Cheers Hope it works for you.
