Nhl 2004 patch

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to patch NHL 2004 with the dummpy patch to use it with the no solder chip. My original NHL 2004 freezes up just before it starts the game on the loading screen. Never got the game to ever work and couldn't return it back to the store. The game probably detects the no solder chip. I got the patch (DUMMY.PAD file), how do I apply it and what programs do I need.

The original game does not detect the no solder chip, if it refuses to load then you have a problem with the game or maybe the laser is on its way out.

even went out to rent the game and it does the same thing, freezes up on loading screen before gameplay.My laser must be dying out (V5).
