Is one format capable of giving a better picture quality when burning video than the other?

Why is that my home DVD players only seem to play one format or the other? 3 of them play DVD-R's and one will play the DVD+R's but none of them will play both. It also seems like the +R disc usually seem to be more bug free than the -R disc but ofcoarse that might have something to do with the players and the software used to burn them.

Most dvd players are able to read -R because thats the more recognized standard. +R is just a different kind, sort of like beta max and vhs.

+R is read and written differently (at an angle if I remember correctly) and -R is written straight on. Maybe that has an effect on how well the disc is burnt.

Hmmm, interesting. So maybe the +R is actually the best format if the angled burn is more effiecent.:confused:

Thats speculation.

If you have the time and know how I would suggest testing both and finding out definitavely which is best. Like I said, -R is more widely used and recognized in standalone dvd players.

+R were never meant for video. -R is the standard format for video production industries. +R was invented by Sony to get a part of the market of DVD media.

Because of the confusion and the unreliable, unpredictable performance of +R or -R in certain DVD players, it seems likely that marketing pressures will drive manufacturers to build DVD players that handle both formats with equal ease. That has already happened with DVD recorders. :rolleyes:
