People,

What's the difference between CD-R & CD-R Audio.

I go to Staples or CompUSA to purchase CD-R's to burn audio; & some salespeople tell you there's no difference between the two...whereas others tell you CD-R Audio is the only way to go (of course, no one can tell you exactly why.)

What's the scoop?

Thanks very much,

Audio ones are for standalone cd burners.

And to add to that...supposedly the "music" CD-Rs can't hold "data" -- i.e., you can't make a CD-ROM out of 'em, just music. BUT -- I recently got in the mail one of those "music-only" CD-Rs -- burned as a data disc! Go figure! [And from my experience, when I was trying to burn Linux to a CD, it wouldn't burn to a music-only. I spent a long time figuring out why it wouldn't work...until I noticed I slipped in a music-only disc. I swapped with a data and it worked....]

And you'll also notice that music-only CD-Rs cost more. That's allegedly because the RIAA assumes that if you're going to buy music-only CD-Rs, it's to make illegal copies of copyrighted material, and the bigger price is supposed to compensate for some of the lost profits.
