Well, that's life...

I was cheated by "known" guy of mine for over 5 years.
I bought on December a v.9 PAL PS2 and went to "my guy" to install a Messiah2 chip. He installed and when i went to play, sometimes it didn't boot.

I called and said it might be a problem with the grounding.
After few weeks the only thing i could see was Red Screen with "insert ps or ps2 disc"...

Oh, i forgot to mention that i opened the PS2 2 days after purchase and saw that it was connected to RESET instead of EJECT. I told him and said that the new messiah2 work with RESET.

Anyway, after the Red Screens, i took it back and left my ps2 there for few days and gave it back to me as it was the first time.
Booting whenever it felt like.

So today, i went to another guy that i found on the net and told him to check my ps2. We opened it and found out that it WASN"T messiah 2, but Matrix MXL2.

I installed messiah2 and now and i'm still on testing it, but there wasn't any flaw up to now...I have checked PS2 backups DVD-R,DVD+R, CD-R and all the times it booted correctly.

Well, that was my experience with Matrix MXL2...
I wrote this, just to say my experience and NOT condemn all MXL2 chips. I might be "the one in 100" case here, but i felt like writing, moslty pointing out, how the some so-called modinstallers
are THAT greedy to gain money, selling other chips as "messiah2"
to gain few more bucks. That's what hurt me most and of course the fact that i knew this guy for 5 years and i had suggested him to many of my friends...

Wait a minute. I want to see if I understand you correctly.

1. The first time you opened up your ps2, did you even notice which chip it was? Was it a messiah 2?

2. The second time you opened it, was the reset/eject problem solved?

OK, i'll try to clarify things.
When i bought (a month ago) the PS2, i didn't have a clue about PS2 modding. The only thing i knew that there was a swapless chip called messiah.

So, when I first opened the PS2 was to see what it was to compare images from the net, to make sure it was the real thing.

The "problem" with Matrix MXL2 is that is very similar at first glance(remember, i was a rookie) with messiah2. I didn't know back then how many solder points messiah2 have, to start counting.

So, i thought, OK it was messiah2 and started reading things for messiah2 on the net, finding a solution to my problems. All this until yesterday, when i went to another guy and opened my PS2 and told me: "This is not messiah2". We talked and analysed me which were the differences between the 2 chips and how to distinguish them.

Therefore, the first modinstaller had sold me a Matrix MXL2 as being messiah2. All the time i had Matrix MXL2 in the PS2, that's why he gave me other booting instructions, than the ones that i read in several pages for messiah2

I hope you understood now!

Yes, i'm 100% sure. I can make a photo of it and post it here.
At the bottom "MXL2" is written. I made a search on Google and find the abovemention chip. I even read fitting schematics and boot instruction. The exact ones, that the guy told me to do.

And in this site, check the photo. I have exactly the same chip.

Hmm, that does look like a messiah 2. But maybe your installer was testing these chips out for the people who make matrix. None the less he should have asked you first.

I kinda want to see what other people say on this chip as well. Maybe when more people install them we will see if they have the same problems. Or even better that they dont have any problems at all and maybe yours was just a beta version.

Don't forget i'm located in Greece.
There's no chance that he was beta-testing them.
I investigate the situation and learn A LOT about him, where he gets his chips and mostly problems from other customers too.

He sold me this chip as "MESSIAH2". he said it was messiah, which of course it wasn't. Same thing with a customer of his, which he told the same lie. This customer of his, has a PS2/XBOX shop and said that one console went dead.

Still I insist that I don't blame the chip. This might be a good chip. I blame him!

And i do agree with you, saying it better be a good chip, so as to exist antagonism in the filed, thus reducing prices. (Even though i have a VERY big belief that most modchips pay royalties to So*y, which keep the price up, but that's my own personal opinion.)

The install wasn't what killed your ps2. All v9 chips have been killing the pal v9s, and the MXL2 is one of the top offenders.

I'd better keep on looking after my V4R then, Lol! :D

Well, my PS2 isn't dead. I uninstalled the MXL2 and installed (not me actually, a mod-installer) a Messiah2 and up to now (3-4 days) worked absolutely flawless. So, time will tell if messiah2 will kill my PAL v.9.
