Hey everyone... I'm trying to decide which chip to go with, the DMS3 or the Magic V. I know about the extra features of the DMS3, but I'm more concerned with which chip is more reliable. I've heard some mixed reviews about the DMS3 but I don't know much about the Magic 5. Have people been having problems with these two chips like with all the complaints about the Messiah 2?

Ok, the second part of what I'm wondering is about the so-called "burning out" of your laser. I've had a PS1 with a mod chip for about 4 or 5 years now and it's still going strong, but it seems like I've read so many things about the PS2 lasers going out, supposedly due to the mod chip. Does the mod chip really severely limit the life of the console or are these people just having bad luck with their systems, and they would've had problems regardless of whether their system was modified or not? If the modifications are the cause for the systems short life, was that a problem with the PS1 also? Maybe I just got lucky in mine lasting so long?

Thanks in advance for any info!!

Consoles lasers will burn out due to a couple things :

Having a Neo chip installed. These are known to totally screw over your laser.
Mis-use - People generally abusing there consoles will eventually break something. Such as the Knife Trick. It's a bad idea :D

I would personally go with the DMS3, I aint really had much experience with the Magic chips. I Know back in the day they were the best you could get. But they are out dated now.
Get a DMS3, you wont go wrong.
But they are hard to install.

Cheap Media will also strain your laser more shortening it's lifespan. Go for disks based on ritek dye.
