View Full Version : Is any V9 safe to chip?
Hi All,
Ive been holding out on getting my V9 chipped as some folk seem to be having loads of problems, if it is safe which chip would u all recommend. I was interested in the DM3 as it gives alot more features.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
It is mostly PAL v9 that is having problems with certain chips, As far as i know DMS3 has been fine though,
ive been hearing v10's haveing the same problems as v9's with the Erprom killing the mother board this is bad for mod chip owners looks like $onys trying to stop modding all togather
ive done quite a few V9's with the smartchip pro and not had any problems yet saying that ive done 4 with messiah 2 without any trouble

well mine died so im pretty pissed about it so maybe my v10 with dms3 will work better im getting the chip for 10$ and the install free and i dont know if mine had a smark chip or magic to start out with but aftr it died i removed a magic V chip the installer said he was useing a smart chip and it stoped working so maybe that chip died and he switch to magic then again he could had just said it was a smart chip
my laser died about 3 days after installing m2 1.33b...i think i'll try dms next time:mad:

OK, lets clear something up, it does not mater what chip you install. The V9 and some V10's are still at risk of possibly dying.
I have had 1 out of loads. Its nothing to do with the chip, its the console design.
Some die without even being opened. Some say its overheating on LA chip, so people put paste on these extra, and or possibly a design fault with the board.
My opion is there is a major design fault with the new consoles, thats why sony brought out the V10 asap.
Installing a chip can affectivly help kill your PS2 if you use rubbish media and make the laser struggle.
I have had very few problems with the v9/10 series

yeah,
99% of the V9 syndrome is limited to Euro PAL consoles.. not sure about Aussies. I have come across 2, both died within a few hours. messiah2 1.33b installed

Thanks everyone, I suppose it will be a bit of luck if it works or not then :)

I got a V9 PS2 50001 NTSC for Xmas and had a Magic V 50K installed and it work great the first 2 days. After that it died. Installer checked the laser and it seemed fine. Guessing it was the motherboard. Was thinking about going with the V10 but after reading these post I'm not sure.

I really don't see why they had to change the board design anyway, I mean, it's only a new crappy case colour - why fix something that isn't broken (i.e.: the V8 Mobo)???
I think SONY should get off their ar**s and fix this whole mess NOW!

Sounds like I just got to treat my old v5 very nice and hope it will last a year or two, then maybe it all will be fixed to the better.
Hmm, if the musicindustry can be sued for making copyprotected discs then we all should be able to sue Sony for the same thing...
*Just a funny thought*
...well said. They are stopping us exercising our legal rights, sure there are some out there who would use this wrongly, but surely Sony are commiting some sort of crime too, as they are stopping a legal action - surely that is just as illegal,
