I have a ver. 3 ps2 with a magic 3.1 which doesn't boot my dvd+r's very good. Every other time I try, the drive will stall before showing the playstation 2 logo, make weird loading noises, and bring up the red "insert ps2 disc" screen. I am currently using dvd+r's and have tried a single dvd-r with seemingly worse results than the + ones. Can it be a problem with my chip or is my ps2 too feeble to read burned dvd's? Original games and CD-r backups work fine.

Can anyone tell me what book type should be best for my unit version ?

Well the prob is definately your laser. You could try cleaning it, but it likely needs to be replaced.

Hmm ok, I've tried cleaning the laser and set the read height and it works most of the time now. Is it possible that my unit will only read dvd+r's ? I've heard somewhere that the dvd-r's should be more compatible in general, but having only tried one disc I should maybe give it another chance ?

If everyone only tried things once and then gave up after theyve failed, life would be pretty miserable.
