does it matter what kind of hd i get... like rpms... brand... ata or ide... can i pick up a bare hard drive from frys or something?
any hd will work just fine you will however have to format and set it up for the xbox

uhh
i suggest 7200 rpm no matter what
brand.. id go with maxtor, wd, or seagate.. any would work though
if its brand new u can put it right in.. but if its an already pc used one, u gotta format it

i recommend the 5400rpm 2mb cache hdd's. That is all the xbox really uses. Whichever one generates less heat you'd want.

5400 over 7200 i dont think so..

well normally I wouldn't say that, but the xbox doesn't take advantage over the extra specs. The 7200 will however run quieter, but may generate more heat.

I got a 7200 and I just added a 80mm fan and a small fan under the hdd. Now my hdd doesnt get any hotter than 90 F. Eventually Im gonna replace the compound under the heatsinks too.
