ok so im prollie pretty dumb for this one but how exactely do you check the version of your ps2...on the boot screen (where u choose memory card/game) i press triangle for version and a screen comes up telling me this

console SCPH-30001 R
browser 1.20
cd player 1.20
Playstation driver 1.10
DVD player 2.10U

so what exactely is the version of the ps2 (when people refer to v4, v5, v7 etc..) Is it the ps2 driver or what? Lol well any help would be appreciated... and for the version i have is it any good?
BTW how exactely do you get the newest version of a ps2? If i go to the px and buy one from there what version do you think i will be gettin (px is a store on an army base for those who arent familiar ;) ) I think it was tyler durden that said that v7's are only sold online? is that true?

looks like you got a V5/V6 board. They shared the same boards. This is what I have been informed of anyway,
The model numbers can be SCPH-30000R, SCPH-30001 R, SCPH-30002 R, SCPH-30003 R, SCPH-30004 R, SCPH-30006 R
But also some SCPH-30000, SCPH-30001, SCPH-30002, SCPH-30003 and SCPH-30004 PS2 have a V5/V6 main board.
From what I have read, this is a pretty good platform for any mod...anything pre-V4 you really didn't want to mess with.

Could be a v4, v5, or v6. If you have 2 screws in the expansion bay it is a v4, 3 screws you have a v5/v6. V10 is the newest. Pretty much all stores sell v9 or v10. A v9/v10s has a scph 5000x.

umm - big hap - all "R" models are V5/6

V4's are all 8 screws at the bottom with either 3000x or 3500x numbers.

ok well my ps2 is as follows

SCPH-30001
8 screws on the bottom and when i take the expansion bay cover off there are two screw holes on either side (only 2) and my serial number starts with U3...

v4 eh?

no yours is a "R" model that makes it a definite V5/6,

should have clarified my comment was more to say it could not be a V4 if it has R...

8 screws just differentiates between the V4 and the V3 when they both are 3000x

All stations from the V4 onwards only have 8 screws in the base.

Missed the R in the first post. Now you say it doesn't have an R? If it does have an R it is a v5/v6. If not it is a v4.

hey my bad let me clerify...
the first post was reguarding my "other" ps2 i have. I have two. The first one... with the "r" and i also have another one with no "r" at the end. Lol my bad for the confusion. So the one with the r is a v5/v6 and the one without is a v4? Thanks for everyones help. And so either one of these ps2's would be cool to chip? thanks again

Yes boh are ok to mod - the V4 would be slightly harder and may need the laser adjusted, but should still be ok.

The V5/6 would 95% of the time be fine with no adjustments required.
