View Full Version : Giving up my Messiah2 association

Just to confirm what I told PS2Newz and PSXForum the other day. I'm in the process of giving up my close ties with the Messiah2 Team and return to an independent role in the PS2 scene.
There are two reasons for this:
I'm totally fed up with the personal attacks made on me just because of my association. I know it's only been a few nasty people whose axe to grind is mainly with those behind messiah2 - but it isn't worth the hassle. They'll still stay nasty I'm sure - or at least some of them will - but to hell with them.
The UK Copyright Act troubles me too. It is an actionable matter to offer or encourage the supply of modchips if there is reason to believe that they'll be used to break copyright laws. So I need to disengage from that even though my terms and conditions stipulated that the customer only buys from me if he/she intends to make backups of personally owned originals that they wish to protect from damage.
I might do the odd install guide (as I did before my past associations) and I will do the Messiah2 v10 install guide in the coming days.
My disassociation will be complete after Christmas when a few commitments have been discharged.
On the question of whether or not modchips are responsible for snuffed PS2s - that will remain a matter of keen interest to me. The v9 situation has had many moving parts thrust into it but running right through the centre of it is the death of the PS2 a few days into use. There are three suspects in this and they probably all figure separately or together:
v9 is a flawed series (hence v10 and v9 recalls)
LA6 chip overheats with no heatsink and bad media
EEProm code is corrupted somehow (modchip or PS2 caused)
This saga will unfold and resolve itself with time.
Otherwise everything normal.

Well Charlie, In respect to your reasoning, we support you here.
This is a great loss for the Messiah2 team as they will be losing a valuable teammate. Too bad some have to be nasty. As for the copyright law reasoning, Wise decision on your part. No need to submit yourself to any unlawful deeds created by those who abuse the privleges. We can only ask them to abide by the conditions set forth prior to chipping their consoles. Regards M8
Take care and Happy Holidays from all of us here.

I don't see this disassociation with the M2 team in any way being a bad thing for Charlie. If anything it will open up new avenues for the enter scene,(as well as himself) not to mention making his advice and recommendations less impartial. Whether or not he said he was impartial people still received him this way. In fact I'm happy to hear this new. Good job Charlie.
Oh and by the way if any one cares I'm all moved in and back on line!!!
Well said spedmetal.
@Charlie, Keep your head up m8, :) . Better days are ahead!
Sorry 2 hear about the hassles you've had bud.Keep up the gr8 ps2 work an advice:D

Hi eakinsme
Certain other forums have reported v9s dying after a few days use with messiah2 v1.31 and later other modchips as they were introduced.
DMS3 has no reported confirmed problems of this type although the DMS3 forum is carrying a thread which establishes a bug in the current DMS3 version for v9/v10. Presumably it can be fixed by a patch.

I for one am glad your not associated with anyone. I remember one time we had a little debate over a chip that basically had less wires and costed less than the messiah 2 and there was no convincing you that it could possibly be any better than Messiah 2.
Maybe now you can answer questions unbiased without thinking of money comming in.
I hope you dont take this wrong Chuck but I just think people will now get a better unbiased answer from now on. Unless you get ties from other modchip companies.

I don't get you wrong Tyler - but you got me wrong.
I know that a modchip with less CD/DVD Bus wires is potentially less stable than DMS3, Messiah2 and other full wired chips.
The money I earned from sales was little more than beer money. I never gave an answer in this forum that was coloured by the money coming in and I challenge you to demonstrate otherwise.
i think there is a link here with less wired chips thay send less data so less chance of corruption .may be thats why there are less ps2 dead then with full wired chip.
this just a thought so don't bash me

Thats an unfair challenge, but none the less just as unfair as my remark about the money issue. If you speak the truth then I formally apologize.
